The Coordinator Recreation Programs is responsible for planning developing administering and supervising various recreation programs tailored to specific demographics while ensuring adherence to the Towns policies and procedures and acceptable industry standards for quality and safety. Provides direct supervision to program staff and volunteers while overseeing daily operations. Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies as needed for programmes and prepares administers and monitors allocated portion of the budget. Responds to emergencies complaints and public relations issues as required.

How you contribute to our organization:

  • Responsible for recreation programming including registered and drop-in activities and programs for preschool children youth general interests fitness and actively aging.
  • Follows accepted industry standards and approved policies such as but not limited to the Child Youth and Family Services Act Employment Standards Act Occupational Health and Safety Act Trespass to Property Act and the New Tecumseth Public Respect and Responsibility Policy.
  • Responsible for managing the hiring process of program staff including but not limited to recruitment job descriptions training scheduling payroll employee records approved disciplinary measures and performance evaluations.
  • Provides supervision direction mentoring coaching and guidance to staff in the day-to-day operations of recreation programs.
  • Ensures that all staff are trained to follow emergency procedures based on established emergency protocols. Responds to emergency situations involving personal injury in both the various program areas.
  • Liaises with outside agencies community groups and individuals to create new and innovative program partnerships.
  • Conducts budget tracking and financial monitoring to optimize resource allocation and sustain program effectiveness. Assists with developing the annual operating budget and Fees and Charges By-law for the Business unit. Conducts market research to ensure fees are in-line with municipal comparators.
  • Maintains inventory control and forecasting measures to ensure timely replenishment while minimizing waste and supporting seamless program operations.
  • Recommends procurement of equipment and supplies recreational programs ensuring adherence to the Towns Procurement Policy while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Develops and implements seasonal program evaluations and analyzes data to assess evidence-based community needs and address gaps in service. Responds to reporting requests from Management.
  • Research grant opportunities completes grant applications and follow-up paperwork in coordination with other department staff.

What you bring to the team:

  • Post secondary education in Recreation or in a field related to the program area is preferred. Equivalent experience in a similar role will be considered.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR level C
  • Vulnerable sector check
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development
  • Diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies is preferred
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention and/or Behaviour Management Systems Training is preferred
  • 3 years experience in a recreation setting including a direct programming role
  • 1 year experience supervising part-time staff
  • 1 year experience in a fast-paced team-oriented recreation environment
  • Ability to develop and present creative ideas solutions and consequences including a proactive approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of public administration and local governance particularly in relation to recreation including policy development service delivery and community engagement.
  • Technical skills required in recreation programming implementation and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of human resources to include recruitment performance management and evaluation.
  • Proficiency required in Microsoft Office Suite and XPLOR recreation software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Salary: $66990..30 plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: New Tecumseth Recreation Centre
Start Date: January 5 2026
