FIELD TECHNICIAN ASSESSED LEVEL Location: Saskatoon Saskatchewan
Assignment Overview:
We are seeking a technically skilled and self-motivated professional to support the commissioning maintenance and optimization of wireless network infrastructure in northern Saskatchewan. This assignment focuses on ensuring high availability and performance across cellular sites and transport facilities within the Customer Wireless Network. Key technologies supported include microwave radio DC power GSM/UMTS/LTE/5G base stations in-building DAS paging systems Cisco/Milan switches RTUs (TLAN) HVAC/FAC systems fiber terminals and multiport antenna and line systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Operations & Troubleshooting
Respond to network trouble reports (IMT) with efficient diagnostics and repairs to meet service restoration goals.
Coordinate with NOC TAC Real Estate Engineering and Field Ops teams to resolve faults and maintain service continuity.
Perform acceptance tests on new equipment and ensure deployment meets design and performance specs.
Conduct root cause analysis and contribute to incident reports and service-level improvements.
Maintenance & Optimization
Execute preventive maintenance routines to ensure optimal network performance and compliance with standards.
Participate in network build upgrade and optimization initiatives including walk testing and performance verification (RSSI transmit levels dropped call analysis).
Investigate and mitigate in-building UL RSSI interference issues.
Identify safety concerns and report to management for resolution.
Installation & Commissioning
Implement work orders for 5G GSM UMTS LTE and transport systems while minimizing impact on live network environments.
Commission and validate performance of transmission systems including microwave fiber and optical links.
Commission new build activity and acceptance inspections checklists.
Inventory & Documentation
Maintain accurate documentation including site records as-builts and incident tickets.
Manage tools equipment and spare parts inventory to ensure readiness for field and lab work.
Handle administrative responsibilities including mileage logs time sheets expense reporting and data updates.
On-Call & Field Work
Provide rotational on-call support including shift work and overtime as needed.
Access remote or seasonally difficult sites using off-road vehicles.
Tow and deploy mobile generators during power outages to maintain service.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelors Diploma or Certificate degree in Electronics or any other related field.
Two plus years of experience in the telecommunications industry
Certification related to EHS/OHS (Environmental Health & Safety / Occupational Health & Safety)
Knowledge of service networks including GSM WCDMA and LTE
Understanding of service and service application implementation/integration
Familiarity with site-related issues
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of multivendor telecommunications equipment
Awareness and adherence to Ericsson Life Saving Rules
Proven understanding of instructions standard operating procedures and processes
Experience with:
Hazard identification and risk assessment
Accident investigation or root cause analysis (RCA)
Working at heights
RF/EMF awareness
Lone work requirements
First Aid
Responsible driving and vehicle inspection
