The Northern Land Council (NLC) is seeking Project Officer working with Indigenous Rangers and partners to manage gamba grass and protect key biodiversity across remote Northern Territory landscapes.

About the Role

As a Project Officer you will help deliver the Gamba Eradication and Biodiversity Conservation Project by working with Indigenous Rangers and partners on gamba grass survey and control activities. You will collect project data provide technical advice support training and logistics and assist with reporting duties. You will also help review project progress work respectfully with others and follow NLC policies and safety requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the implementation of strategic gamba grass management activities through the provision of training and on-ground assistance working alongside project partners in survey and control activities;
  • Survey and record gamba infestations in the gamba eradication zone and collect accurate weed focused project data;
  • Plan and participate in the implementation of strategic gamba management and evaluate and report internally on project outcomes;
  • Assist in the management of remote logistics and survey control activities;
  • Assist project funded partners to comply with contractual requirements data collection and reporting;
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks and duties that are required that are within the scope of your position classification service area and skill set as required;

About You

You are a hands-on adaptable professional who will work with Indigenous Rangers and partners to deliver gamba grass survey and control activities that support key biodiversity conservation goals across the Northern Territory.

You will bring:

  • Completion of Tertiary qualifications in Natural Resource Management Conservation and Ecosystem Management /or relevant significant experience;
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role;
  • Demonstrated ability to partake plan and implement field trips in remote parts of the NLC region and to manage projects effectively in remote localities;
  • Experience in the field application of GIS (geographic information systems) and GPS (global positioning systems) for weed mapping planning and survey navigation;
  • Experience in integrated weed management and the safe use handling and application of range of herbicides and knowledge of NT flora;
  • Ability to work in remote areas for extended periods of time in various climatic conditions and able to conduct operations in light aircraft helicopters ATVs and small vessels;
  • Current NT C Class drivers licence and willingness to travel remotely;

We offer:

  • Competitive base salary of $84985 per annum plus 15% superannuation;
  • Salary packaging benefits up to $15900 p.a. (plus meal and accommodation benefits up to $2650);
  • District allowance of up to $4884 per annum (with dependents) or $2678 (without).
  • Five (5) weeks annual leave leave loading 18 days personal leave;
  • Annual airfare benefit after 12 months of service (net value $3177);
