Job Summary

Green Energy Consumers Alliance is a non-profit organization that enables people to make green energy choices in the most cost-effective practical and seamless ways possible and to advocate for energy policies that benefit the greater good. Our energy programs offer New Englanders: information on and help making the switch to electric cars;
green electricity for homes offices and whole communities; efficient electricity & heating; and advocacy for climate-friendly energy policy.

Green Energy Consumers Alliance is looking for an intern to assist with our Rhode Island clean energy education and climate policy efforts.
This position would involve assisting with educational outreach and community engagement around clean energy as well as climate policy analysis and tracking.

Internship responsibilities include:

  • Assist in community outreach and education;
  • Assist in materials for presentation development;
  • Assist in event management;
  • Assist in collaborating with community partners for each in-person event;
  • Help plan and assist as-needed with scheduled in-person and virtual discussions;
  • Assist in webinar coordination and development;
  • Assist in reading and analyzing Rhode Islands climate plans and policies;
  • Assist in tracking legislation for the 2026 legislative session;
  • Assist in monitoring dockets at the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn more about environmental justice clean energy climate mitigation policy
    the electricity transportation and building sectors and/or the nonprofit sector.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Rhode Island to engage in outreach and assist in event coordination.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills attention to detail and ability to closely follow written procedures.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Drivers license.
  • Experience with community outreach and event planning.
  • Familiarity with or passion for climate policies and clean energy

Eligible Candidates Include:

  • Students that are currently enrolled at a college or university located in Rhode Island or if the college or university is located outside of Rhode Island can demonstrate proof of residency.
  • Students that have completed or will complete at least their freshman year of college (24 credits) the semester before the internship.
  • If a student attends a community college (or 2-year associate program) the student must have completed at least 24 credits.
  • Graduate students must be currently enrolled in a masters degree program or have graduated within one year of applying.

This 12-week internship with negotiable hours (ideally between 12-25 hours/week) will be conducted in a hybrid fashion working both remotely and at least one day a week from our office in Providence RI. The session will start on or after January 5 2025 and end by April 24 2026. The hours can be fulfilled around your schedule but must be during 9am-6pm M-F. The pay is $22.00/hour.
The internship is contingent upon funding from the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources.
