The Science Technician will support teaching staff by preparing apparatus and materials demonstrating safe working where appropriate clearing up after practicals and maintaining the science store. The appointed Science Technician will check equipment for safety manage risk-assessment documentation and keep inventory systems up to date. Working in Bristol the Science Technician will have access to strong departmental support and CPD tailored to laboratory best practice.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and set up practical equipment and materials for science lessons in a timely manner.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory apparatus checking for faults and reporting concerns.
- Manage chemical and consumable stocks ensuring correct storage and accurate inventory records.
- Support teachers with safe practical demonstrations and supervise routine clearing and cleaning.
- Keep risk-assessment and COSHH records up to date and contribute to health & safety checks.
Person specification
- Previous experience in a laboratory support role or as a Science Technician with practical organisation skills.
- Good understanding of lab health & safety COSHH and safe storage of chemicals.
- Organised methodical and comfortable managing stock and preparing kits for multiple lessons.
- Able to communicate clearly with teachers technicians and pupils across the Bristol school.
- Available to start January 2026 and to participate in an induction prior to January 2026.
