Position Summary
The Office Cleaner (Custodial Worker) is responsible for maintaining a clean safe and sanitary office environment. This role ensures that all common areas offices restrooms and shared spaces are cleaned daily and kept in presentable condition for staff and visitors. The ideal candidate is reliable detail-oriented and able to work independently during evening hours.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning & Sanitation
Sweep mop and vacuum floors in offices hallways conference rooms and common areas.
Empty clean and reline trash and recycling receptacles throughout the office.
Dust and wipe down desks (where clear) tables window sills ledges and other surfaces.
Clean sanitize and stock restrooms including toilets sinks mirrors and floors.
Clean and sanitize kitchen/break rooms including counters sinks tables appliances exterior and floors.
Wipe down high-touch surfaces such as door handles light switches elevator buttons and railings.
General Maintenance & Upkeep
Refill soap dispensers paper towel dispensers toilet paper and other restroom and kitchen supplies.
Maintain cleaning closets and storage areas in an organized manner.
Monitor supply levels and notify supervisor when cleaning products or paper goods need to be replenished.
Report any maintenance issues (e.g. leaks broken fixtures damaged walls/floors malfunctioning equipment) to the supervisor in a timely manner.
Health Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety procedures and use cleaning chemicals and equipment properly in accordance with product instructions and organizational guidelines.
Properly handle and dispose of trash recyclables and any potentially hazardous materials in compliance with organizational policies.
Help maintain a clean and clutter-free environment to reduce safety hazards.
Other Duties
Support setup/breakdown for meetings or events as needed (e.g. arranging chairs wiping tables clearing trash afterwards).
Perform additional cleaning tasks as assigned by the supervisor especially during special projects events or seasonal deep cleaning.
QualificationsRequired:
Prior experience in office cleaning custodial or janitorial workpreferred but not required; training can be provided.
Ability to work consistently during the assigned schedule: MondayFriday 4:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean orderly environment.
Reliable punctual and professional in appearance and demeanor.
Preferred:
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation (a plus).
Experience using commercial cleaning equipment (e.g. floor buffers vacuums carpet cleaners) a plus.
Queens resident a plus
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 4 hours at a time).
Ability to bend stoop reach and lift or move items (generally up to 2530 pounds) such as boxes trash bags and cleaning supplies.
Ability to push and pull cleaning carts and vacuum cleaners.
Comfortable using step stools or small ladders for dusting and cleaning higher surfaces (if applicable).
Work Environment
Evening shift in an office environment.
Exposure to standard cleaning chemicals and supplies (PPE and training will be provided).
Interaction with staff may occur at the beginning or end of shift; otherwise much of the work is performed independently.
