Job Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the performance of diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures. Administers radioactive materials for clinical imaging and therapeutic purposes. Observes and adheres to radiation safety guidelines and performs all regulatory radiation surveying duties. Performs various duties assigned by department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Womans Hospital.

Requirements:

  • Graduate from a certified Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiologic Technology program with advanced training in Nuclear medicine technology
  • LSBRTE licensure
  • Certification through the NMTCB or ARRT
  • Appropriate registration required in Nuclear Medicine Technology

Responsibilities:

  • Performs imaging studies that use nuclear medicine with physicians order. Determines appropriate isotopes obtains patient history and reviews patient condition in an effort to promote the provision of quality patient care services.
  • Follows prescribed techniques in administering radioactive materials for clinical imaging and therapeutic purposes.
  • Observes the rules of radiation safety and the ALARA principal and observes proper exam criteria in an effort towards ensuring high quality imaging exams.
  • Verifies patient demographics reason for orders and insurance requirements. Assists with obtaining informed consents if necessary.
  • Performs all regulatory radiation surveying and package monitoring to ensure a safe working and clinical environment (i.e. calibrations documentation).
  • Performs radiopharmacy duties as needed (e.g. assesses radioactive drug usage prepares as necessary) to ensure continuity of service quality and the provision of high quality patient care services.
  • Assists Radiologist within scope of service providing pertinent history status information and completion of a diagnostic exam.
  • Keeps patients and family informed. Maintains customer confidentiality.
  • Maintains skills and knowledge through continuous study of equipment capabilities and new developments in the field. Maximizes equipment usage. Assists with new or ongoing update and revision of policy and procedures to provide continuous improvement of patient care.
  • Disinfects/cleans equipment and transducers as needed to maintain aseptic condition of area and equipment in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Uses gloves goggles gowns and other protective equipment when necessary practicing universal precautions with each patient encounter taking personal protection seriously.
  • Promptly recognizes and reports any medical errors or risk thereof to appropriate personnel (supervisor Security and/or Risk Management).
  • Any other duties as assigned by Womans Hospital.
