About the Role
As a Senior Advisor Process Safety you will lead and support complex process safety initiatives across capital projects and operational activities. Youll play a critical role in ensuring compliance with Rio Tintos process safety standards conducting risk assessments and driving continuous improvement in process safety performance. This role requires strong technical expertise stakeholder engagement and a proactive approach to managing process risks
Key Responsibilities
Adhere to all Rio Tinto health and safety standards policies and procedures; report process safety hazards and risks appropriately.
Lead qualitative (HAZID/HAZOP) and semi-quantitative risk assessments for capital projects and operational activities.
Coordinate Facility Siting Studies and Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) with internal teams or third parties.
Support Risk and Control Owners with risk mitigation planning and ALARP studies.
Communicate risk assessment outcomes to stakeholders and develop Bow Tie diagrams for high-severity scenarios.
Identify and monitor Critical Controls assess their health and recommend improvements.
Manage the sites occupied building risk program including temporary surveillance and consequence-based siting evaluations.
Support process safety elements in sustaining capital projects and operational activities including MOC and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
Assist sites with implementation and certification of Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
Ensure Process Safety Information (PSI) is current accurate and accessible; integrate safety elements into operating and maintenance procedures.
Participate in audits inspections and turnaround planning to ensure safe startup/shutdown of units.
Coordinate EPA Risk Management Planning activities and ensure compliance with 40 CFR Part 68.
Lead investigations of process safety events and facilitate process improvement initiatives with stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
Conduct and coordinate process safety training and communicate performance measures to internal and external parties.
Support strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts across sites.
What Youll Bring (Minium Qualifications)
Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering Safety Engineering or related field
Experience in a fixed plant or MEM (Mobile Equipment Maintenance) environment preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively in small teams and independently with adaptability.
Experience with Defect Elimination and Root Cause Analysis methodologies.
Proven track record in delivering Continuous Improvement initiatives and projects.
Understanding of budget preparation and asset criticality.
