Job Summary and Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
Supports the mission and vision of CHI Health by performing accurate and skilled blood collection procedures. Conducts all related duties as a professional member of the health care team. Performs various clerical and specimen processing duties.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Transports collects receives and prepares biological specimens for all age groups of patients for analysis using procedures consistent with safe work practices and proper laboratory techniques while maintaining the integrity of specimens.
2. Organizes and prioritizes workload by LEAN principles for the most efficient accurate and timely collection and processing of specimens in order to meet quality standards of laboratory testing.
3. Uses appropriate customer service skills (cordial positive attitude helpfulness) in encounters with patients families of patients visitors and other members of the health care team that result in high levels of customer satisfaction for the organization.
4. If required by facility performs patient testing maintenance daily quality control testing of proficiency samples for bedside monitors and records results in Laboratory information system.
5. Ensures accurate and timely registration of reference lab patients.
6. Follow up and investigation into medical necessity diagnosis and order clarification as appropriate.
7. Performs general duties as required: answering phones monitoring the pneumatic tube ordering and distributing supplies cleaning work areas taking refrigerator temperatures printing and distributing results etc.
8. Other duties as assigned by management

Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Preferred Phlebotomy certification or completion of a phlebotomy course
