The Role:

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is seeking a technically capable and detail-oriented Data Operations Analyst to support the effective use of data across the RFU. The use of data is growing within the RFU and this position is vital in ensuring its accuracy and value across the organisation.

The role will involve the day-to-day management of the RFUs Data Warehouse together with the support of associated processes such as data ingestion and transformation. Data is taken from a wide range of sources including the Game Management System (GMS) ticketing and other commercial areas. Working with other members of the Digital and Technology Team alongside third party support partners youll play a key part in maintaining data integrity troubleshooting data quality and pipeline issues and enabling reliable reporting and insights. This role bridges analytics and data engineering ideal for someone with a strong analytical mindset and a desire to grow deeper technical skills. The role will provide plenty of scope for technical growth for the right candidate working collaboratively with departments across the RFU including our Architecture team Marketing and support partners.

The role would report to the Business Applications Manager and assist the Data Architect on a day-to-day basis.

The Team:

The Digital Technology department is a small but vital team at the RFU providing support and development capabilities across a wide variety of platforms and solutions. Supporting everything from match day infrastructure to day-to-day business operations the team provides the technology to run all aspects of rugby from grass roots through to national teams.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Support the maintenance monitoring and improvement of all data flows from external sources including the Game Management System (GMS) ticketing etc. into the central data warehouse.
  • Collaborate with the Data Architect and Data & Insights Team to diagnose and resolve data quality transformation and integration issues.
  • Ensure data accuracy consistency and compliance with governance and GDPR standards.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into actionable insights or technical tasks.
  • Create and maintain support documentation data mapping and change tracking for data warehouse updates and system integrations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of data processes tooling and reporting frameworks.
  • Work with suppliers and third-party support partners as required to support and develop data platforms and processes
  • Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of the current strategic business and operational plans.

  • Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the organisation.

Qualifications Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Strong SQL skills and experience querying and transforming data from relational databases.
  • Demonstrable experience in a data analysis data engineering or related technical role.
  • Some experience in Tableau (or related dashboarding software).
  • Experience working with large or complex datasets ideally within a data warehouse environment.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot data quality and pipeline issues.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.
  • Understanding of data governance data quality and GDPR principles.

Desirable:

  • Experience with participant membership platforms
  • Exposure to CRM platforms.
  • Exposure to data engineering tools and concepts ( RDS Python).
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Experience working with APIs or flat file data imports.
  • Interest in grassroots sport participation data or sports analytics.
