Job Summary

Tertiary students are provided with practical work experience opportunities to observe and perform tasks under supervision to complete the mandatory work placement component of their Bachelor of Youth Work course. 

Tertiary students studying toward a qualification in Bachelor of Youth Work can apply for and must outline the placement requirements as set out by the educational provider. The placement will be unpaid. 

WHAT YOULL BE DOING: 

Hume Youth Services is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Placement Student to join our dynamic team. This placement offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in youth services and will give you the opportunity to:  

  • Shadow experienced youth workers to understand the day-to-day role and responsibilities. 
  • Be paired with a dedicated host supervisor who will guide mentor and provide feedback throughout your placement. 
  • Develop respectful collaborative relationships with youth services professionals community partners and young people. 
  • Participate in planning implementing and evaluating programs activities and events for young people. 
  • Gain insight into the processes behind program coordination promotion and evaluation. 
  • Learn about referral pathways service networks and support options available to young people in Hume. 
  • Build confidence in communication teamwork and problem-solving in a professional youth services setting. 
  • Learn about youth participation practices cultural awareness and inclusive service delivery. 

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor ofYouth Work studies 
  • Preferably in your final year of study 
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

  • Resume:The application will require a resume. Please create and submit a resume sharing some information about yourself including your skills strengths work experiences and areas of interest. 
  • Placement requirements: The application form will ask for details to fulfill the placement requirements. This includes length of placement hours required and what you would like to achieve from participating in work experience at Hume City Council. 
  • Informal Interview: If you progress to the next stage an informal interview will be organised to see if your goals for placement align with the placement opportunity available. 
  • Student Placement Agreement: If you are offered the placement opportunity you will need to provide a signed Student Placement Agreement including the education providers insurance documentation. 
  • Councils Employee Code of Conduct: Whilst on placement you will need to agree to act in accordance with Councils Employee Code of Conduct.
