Join our Gas Power Controls team as an Applied AI & Controls Transformation Intern spearheading the integration of cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence GenAI Machine Learning and automation into our design and customer fulfillment processes. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly impact operational efficiency product quality and new hire training. You will conceptualize scalable control system solutions acting as a vital bridge between GE Vernovas Advanced Research Center (ARC) and our engineering teams. Drive the accelerated adoption of AI/ML influencing strategic technology roadmaps and translating innovative research into tangible high-value industrial applications that shape the future of gas power generation.
Project Outcomes:
As a Summer AI/Automation Intern you will:
- Conceptualize design and contribute to the governance of AI-driven control system solutions aimed at enhancing performance reliability efficiency safety and decarbonization efforts.
- Evaluate and ensure that proposed solutions are scalable secure and interoperable with existing Gas Power Controls infrastructure.
- Act as a key liaison with GE Vernovas Advanced Research Center (ARC) facilitating the transfer of emerging AI/ML technologies from research into production-ready industrial control applications.
- Assist in guiding pilot projects and proofs-of-concept translating research outputs into tangible business outcomes for control applications.
- Help build a robust technology pipeline bringing cutting-edge innovations from research into field deployments.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for deploying AI/ML solutions across engineering functions including predictive maintenance anomaly detection intelligent control tuning and automatic control code generation.
- Contribute to the AI strategy development for Gas Power Controls.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical electrical process and instrumentation engineers to develop holistic control solutions.
- Engage with the Strategic Technology and Adaptive Intelligence (STAI) team to align and influence technology development for broader business impact.
- Actively contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team researching and proposing novel approaches.

Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelors Masters or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Computer Science Mechanical Engineering Data Science or a closely related field.
-Minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0.
- Strong foundational understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning concepts (e.g. supervised/unsupervised learning deep learning reinforcement learning).
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python strongly preferred) and experience with relevant AI/ML libraries (e.g. TensorFlow PyTorch scikit-learn).
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with data analysis manipulation and visualization tools.
- Basic understanding of control systems automation principles or industrial processes.
- Strong analytical critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.
- Previous experience with Generative AI (GenAI) models Natural Language Processing (NLP) or large language models (LLMs).
- Familiarity with industrial control platforms such as PLCs DCS or SCADA systems.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Azure GCP) and MLOps principles.
- Prior internship or project experience applying AI/ML in an industrial energy or engineering context.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical high-impact solutions.
- Active participation in research projects publications or open-source contributions related to AI/ML or control systems.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity considerations for industrial systems.
- Understanding of digital twin concepts or simulation environments.

The pay for this position ranges from $25-34/hr. based on years of undergraduate/graduate field of study completed.
