Job Summary

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a masters degree and at least 3-5 years of professional work experience in criminal justice or a related field is required.

    OR

    • Substitution: A Juris Doctorate (JD) and at least 3-5 years of professional work experience in criminal justice legal or related fields.
    • Substitution: A PhD in criminal justice Criminology or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Previous teaching experience which may include teaching at post-secondary levels and/or leading professional training is preferred.
  • Ability to teach in multiple formats (on-campus online hybrid) is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of applied work experience in the criminal justice system is preferred.

The College of Public Service at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers in Criminal Justice from which future appointments to temporary non-tenure track positions will be made. Appointments are part-time (less than 50% time) and will be made semester-by-semester.

Salary Range:1st & 2nd course $3250/course; 3rd & 4th course $3450/course; 5th course and beyond $3750/course. This position isExempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Work Location: Determined by course modality (i.e. on campus if teaching an in-person course; remote if teaching an online course; or a combination of the two if teaching a hybrid course).

Summary

This position will teach graduate courses in Criminal Justice. Assigned courses would include criminal justice electives (courses numbered 5000 are graduate level). Classes may be on-campus online or hybrid. While all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply the department has a current need for lecturers with the following areas of expertise:

  • Crime Theory

  • Criminal Investigations

  • Criminal Law

  • Forensic Interviewing

  • Grant Management

  • Grant Writing

  • Victim Advocacy

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Class preparation

  • Delivery of course materials

  • Creation of assessments (examinations papers learning activities)

  • Grading

  • Maintaining availability for student consultations during the semester

  • The position includes regular communication with the program director and staff throughout the semester.

Because this appointment is temporary in nature you will not be eligible to receive all of the benefits normally provided to faculty under the standard University of Colorado benefits programs. You are not eligible to receive paid vacation leave medical or retirement benefits. However you are eligible to accrue sick leave at 0.034 hours of sick leave per hour worked.
