Reporting to the Site Lead the Winter Warming Lead is responsible for leading the team of staff and volunteers in maintaining a safe warm and welcoming environment where staff guests and volunteers become a life-giving community that nurtures hope health and transformation. This role plays a key part in shaping the culture and tone of the Centre as they oversee shifts at the Community Impact Centre and provide guidance to the team. The position involves crisis intervention and de-escalation as part of its core responsibilities.
Employment Type: Temporary Full-time
Schedule 1: Strathcona CIC - Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (hours will be determined)
Schedule 2: Canora CIC - Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday to Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (hours will be determined)

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and direction to employees and volunteers on the assigned shifts;
- Promote programs to the community members and encourage participation; aid in the facilitation of programs as needed including leading volunteers;
- Collaborate with community members to encourage positive changes in lifestyle and behavior through supportive relationships and day-to-day interactions;
- Refer and advocate for guests to access programs and services within the organization and with other agencies and partners;
- Provide conflict resolution using non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques with a proactive approach;
- Provide immediate response to emergencies including suspected drug poisoning and offer support during crisis situations;
- Perform periodic internal and perimeter safety checks;
- Enforce guests loss of services as necessary and participate in restorative practices with guests;
- Complete incident reports debrief with staff and volunteers after any incidents and escalate to Site Lead or Community Impact Centre Manager when necessary;
- Maintain measurables and assessment tools for programming and ensure that these are recorded and met; collect data and generate reports on statistics as required;
- Assist with the cleaning of the site to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all guests employees volunteers and visitors;
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism;
- Comply with all Health and Safety protocols and reporting requirements including incident reports and near-miss documentation and complete mandatory training programs such as NVCI SafeTalk and First Aid.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- An undergraduate degree in Social Work or related field or equivalent level of experience;
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with vulnerable groups such as individuals experiencing homelessness poverty mental illness or addiction;
- Minimum of 1 year in a leadership role;
- Knowledge within the field of community development and community resilience initiatives;
- Demonstrated ability to engage communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of people from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds;
- Experienced with developing and encouraging staff to come up with creative solutions to complex challenges and problem;
- Must be self-directed and have the ability to work independently as required;
- Effective meeting facilitation skills as well as multi-tasking and administrative skills;
- Well-developed organizational time management oral written and interpersonal communication skills;
- Demonstrated effective conflict management and networking skills;
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite;
- A valid Class 5 drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle with a minimum of $liability insurance is considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to work evenings and weekends across multiple locations is required;
- Minimal to moderate physical effort required; Lifting traveling sitting standing walking required as part of this role;
- This position is often fast-paced and requires moderate amount of mental effort to analyze information and problem solve;
- Potential for exposure to vicarious trauma;
- Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times which could result in them uttering threats discriminatory statements and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive;
- Training on how to respond is provided but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.
