This Wildlife Associate position will serve as the first point of contact for the public and assist with wildlife admissions customer service and administrative support. This position plays a key role in facilitating wildlife intake responding to public inquiries and providing clerical assistance to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
Working at the front-line of the district this position offers a unique experience to interact directly with the countys natural resources while interacting with the public.
What Youll Do
- Admit and process incoming wildlife patients including obtaining information from finders creating records and safely handling animals.
- Respond to wildlife hotline calls offering accurate information on species behavior humane deterrents and care for injured or orphaned wildlife.
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting visitors answering questions scheduling appointments registering program participants and processing payments and permits.
- Perform administrative and clerical duties using word processing spreadsheets and database software; maintain records correspondence and filing systems.
- Support internal operations by preparing reports maintaining inventory processing orders and assisting with budgeting and financial tasks.
- Coordinate facility events and provide training or guidance to assigned volunteers and staff.
- Handle public complaints or concerns in a professional policy-aligned manner.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean organized and hazard-free workspace.
- Contribute to a collaborative service-oriented team environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
What Youll Need
- 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
- High School Diploma/GED less than 1 year of related experience in wildlife animal care and rehabilitation or equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- Must have and maintain CPR AED and First Aid Certification or obtain within 6 months.
- Must have and maintain Illinois Mandated Reporter certification or obtain upon hire.
- Experience with training other seasonal staff and volunteers.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of animal characteristics behavior and care.
- Knowledge of safe handling and restraining practices.
- Familiarity with observing and controlling a variety of wildlife.
- Knowledge of native wildlife species behavior and rehabilitation techniques.
- Ability to use a variety of equipment and tools for maintenance of items.
- Effective in establishing and maintaining productive workplace relationships.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to maintain complete accurate and organized records.
Schedule Pay & Benefits
- 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Sunday through Wednesday.
- $19.24 21.65 per hour.

- Based out of the DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center located in Glen Ellyn IL.
- This position largely works indoors but includes some wok outdoors in all weather conditions. Frequent handling of animal wildlife is required.
