PhD Position in AI-Driven Cardiac CT Research

At the Faculty of Medicine Department of Health Science and Technology one or more PhD stipends are available within the doctoral programme: Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience from January 1 2026 or soon thereafter.

Description of the PhD position:
The PhD research will focus on the development of AI models for analysis of cardiac CT scans with the aim to explore how machine learning models can quantify cardiovascular disease and predict future events from CT scans. The project will utilize a large dataset including cardiac CT scans from 100.000patinets and significant part of the project will include data c.

The PhD position is located in Aalborg and the candidate will be a member of CardioTech Research Group at the Health Science and Technology Dept. The group currently consists of twelve active researchers including five PhD students and has an engineering approach to clinical problems in cardiology and to more fundamental questions within the area of cardiovascular disease as well. The project is a collaboration project between multiple Scandinavian Universities and Hospitals.

Description of the candidate:
The successful candidate is expected to hold:
A master degree in biomedical engineering or computer science
Excellent programming skills (Python & SQL).
Experience in data preparation machine learning
Experience in processing 3D medical imaging.
Keen interest in cardiology and medical imaging.
Good command of the English language.
Ability to work collaboratively with both junior and senior researchers

Qualification requirements
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School in Medicine in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1124 of September 19 2025 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
