Wayman Education is working with a friendly primary school in Manchester to recruit a committed Year 1 Teacher. The successful Year 1 Teacher will teach a structured phonics programme deliver guided reading and design meaningful maths activities that develop number sense. This Year 1 Teacher will also work with parents to support learning at home and will take part in cross-phase transition planning. The appointment will begin January 2026 with induction and preparation sessions run in the weeks before January 2026.

Role overview
The Year 1 Teacher will plan progressive daily lessons that secure strong early reading and number fluency use assessment to tailor support and lead small groups to close gaps quickly. The Year 1 Teacher will collaborate with the EYFS and KS1 teams to ensure continuity of provision and to support childrens social and emotional learning across Manchester.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver sequenced Year 1 lessons that prioritise phonics early reading and number.
- Assess learning effectively and run targeted interventions to accelerate progress.
- Work with support staff to scaffold activities and to monitor attainment across the cohort.
- Engage with families to report on progress and to encourage home-school learning partnerships.
- Contribute to whole-school events safeguarding and pastoral systems.
Person specification
- Qualified teacher with experience in early years/KS1 and secure phonics expertise.
- Organised reflective and effective at building positive classroom routines and relationships.
- Committed to working in Manchester and ready to start January 2026 with induction provided beforehand.
