Position Summary: The Security Officer provides competent campus security and safeguards students employers visitors and property with an emphasis on customer service and good community relations.
Essential Functions:
- Provides continuous monitoring of campus property including security inspections of all doors windows and gates establish routes patrols and inspections for security personnel.
- Provides continuous monitoring of employees visitors and students for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established guidelines and maintaining a safe and positive school environment.
- Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.
- Integrates security duties with scheduled campus activities.
- Acts as lead officer during evening shift.
- Maintains contact and is accessible to Security Manager via cellular phone pager and/or 2-way radio.
- Briefs Security Manager on potential problems or safety issues.
- Responds to requests related to safety and security by school administrators employees students parents and other visitors to Charlotte Country Day School.
- Makes scheduled tours of school and grounds by vehicle or walking to ensure security and watches for conditions that could result in injury or loss.
- Monitors and resolves actions by visitors drivers students or employees that could cause injury or loss.
- Provides security coverage for bus students at Lower School for late athletic bus service from middle school and late wait pick-up.
- Trains new officers on standard evening operational procedures and protocols.
- Operates and monitors all appropriate control panels alarms and all related security equipment. Frequently checks fire and security systems for proper operation. Must be able to troubleshoot and correct minor difficulties.
- Responds to all alarms.
- Serves as contact / responder for campus security system provider.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of law enforcement methods techniques and procedures.
- Working knowledge of Charlotte Country Day School organizational policies and procedures including appropriate human resources compliance.
- An ability to recognize problems and choose the appropriate solution from among several.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- The ability to take charge but deal professionally and calmly in emergency situations.
- Ability to read simple instructions and operate independently during shift.
- Ability to safely operate school vehicles on public roads as well as on campus around visitors employees and students.
- Valid state drivers license.
Physical Work Environment:
- Work regularly requires sustained concentration.
- Work requires considerable physical effort or manual dexterity including occasionally lifting pushing pulling or carrying equipment and materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to crawl reach and occasionally run and drive a vehicle in the normal course of duties.
- Sufficient vision (with correction) to read and to observe more distant objects.
- Ability to do considerable walking in order to make rounds of facility.
- Sufficient stamina and ability to complete tasks with some risk of exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dust humidity rain temperature extremes traffic hazards and violence.
