Job Purpose
- The Recycling and waste teams aim is to produce a high quality and cost-effective service to the residents of Monmouthshire whilst promoting the waste hierarchy and producing high quality recylate.
- This role is essential in delivering our ambition to be safe clean and sustainable as well as ensuring the Council can deliver on its commitment to provide a high performing recycling service.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- To collect waste from households and businesses as determined by the Councils recycling and waste strategy and collection schedules from a variety of receptacles/bins.
- Recycling and waste collections include:
- Food waste
- Garden waste
- Residual waste (Black bags)
- Hygiene waste
- Dry recycling e.g. paper glass cans
- Trade waste
- To deliver a high quality Service to the Public by ensuring:
- That all collections are made on schedule
- That the area is left in a clean and safe condition after collections have been completed
- That receptacles are placed back where they are collected from in a tidy manner taking care not to block pavements driveways etc
- You are professional polite and courteous to all members of the public during your work.
- Assisted collections and extra allocation collections are carried out accurately
- To monitor contamination in recycling collections (dry food and garden waste) and undertake subsequent procedures.
Essential Experience Required
- Relevant experience within a similar operational environment.
- Experience of and willingness to work as part of an effective team.
- A good understanding of Health and Safety issues and agreement to abide by the authoritys policies and procedures.
Essential Qualification Required
- Education is related field is desirable.
Additional information to note
- Working hours: 37 hours per week
- Monday to Thursday 7am to 3pm Friday 7am to 2.30pm including bank holidays.
- Driving Licence is required for this role.
- Location: Llanfoist Depot Abergavenny Monmouthshire NP7 9LH United Kingdom
- All relevant training and support that will enable you to carry out your duties safely and effectively.
- Personal protective equipment and clothing that will enable you to carry out your duties safely.
- Up to 31 days holiday.
- Progressional opportunities for the right candidates including completion of car driving licence and/or HGV licence.
- Wide range of Council benefit packages.
- If you have to travel over and above your normal home to office journey then you are paid 45p for additional mileage (subject to revision locally). Alternatively there are pool cars available although this cannot be guaranteed so using your own car may be essential.

Requirements: Basic understanding of waste and refuse collection processes. Ability to operate collection vehicles and equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Good physical stamina and ability to work in various weather. Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude. Previous experience in waste management or a related field is a plus but not required.
