  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints and Drug Screen.
  • Period of Performance: Time of Award up to two (2) years.
  • Type of Employment: Part-time 48 hours per two (2) week period.
  • Estimated Pay: $39.73 - $44.82 per hour.
  • Pay Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Holidays (Four (4) for each holiday).
  • Paid Time Off: 20 hours occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave: 28 hours occurring on day one.

Working Hours
The Dental Hygienist will usually work onsite four (4) hours per day two (2) days per week Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays) between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. The Dental Hygienist schedule shall not exceed 48 hours per two (2) week period.

The Health Services Administrator will determine the actual hours of work. Due to the nature of the correctional setting delays in work performance may occur. Such delays may include but are not limited to inclement weather electrical or mechanical problems or other security matters.

Summary of Duties
The Dental Hygienist will provide direct patient care and receive guidance from higher-level or supervisory staff members for only the most complex patients and requires only general supervision from a Dentist.

Qualifications

  • Must hold an active and unrestricted license to practice Dental Hygiene in the state of Missouri.
  • Evidence of completing a program that certifies them to administer X-rays or perform radiologic procedures.
  • Evidence of program completion includes a transcript or documentation that provides for your coursework in administering X-rays or performing radiologic procedures.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Dental Hygienist.
  • Correctional Environment experience is preferred.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.

Attire

The Dental Hygienist is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide dental prophylaxis other preventative oral health services and other periodontal services for Adults in Custody (AIC) who are referred to by the Dental Staff.
  • Monitor oral hygiene and periodontal condition on each patient seen for dental prophylaxis.
  • Perform necessary paperwork related to scheduling patients for dental prophylaxis and other Dental Services as directed by the Dental Staff.
  • Responsible for providing patient education appropriate to the Patients needs and oral condition (e.g. post-procedure tobacco cessation caries and periodontal disease prevention).
  • Prepares and provides individual and group oral health care instruction to inpatients outpatients and caregivers.
  • Interprets radiographs and dental images.
  • Images are characterized by diagnostic quality accurate orientation and exposure.
  • Utilizes dental imaging safety techniques and ensures retakes are minimized.
  • Ensures instruments are adequately prepared for sterilization by OSHA standards and in a manner that does not delay clinical care.
  • The physical demands of this position are largely sedentary in nature however long periods of standing walking sitting and bending are required.
  • Professional contacts are with inmate patients requiring dental care contract workers and other professional and nonprofessional civilians Public Health Service and Bureau employees.
  • Perform minor clerical duties such as use of BOP electronic medical record computer documentation and scheduling scanning documents filing typing callouts institutional memorandums answering phones scheduling patients and maintaining stock records.
