Director Facilities & Operations

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Director Facilities & Operations to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Director Facilities & Operations oversees the maintenance energy operations and environmental services operations of assigned facilities. Further the Director Facilities & Operations provides leadership to management staff and oversees all maintenance program initiatives.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Identifies analyzes and implements energy projects for assigned facilities.

  • Prepares department budget for funding requirements and monitors expenditures.

  • Makes routine inspections of facilities to uphold maintenance standards.

  • Works as liaison between staff and departments to continuously assess facility conditions and keep facility assessment database accurate and up-to-date.

  • Prepares reports for leadership team regarding facility conditions and needs.

  • Collaborates in the planning of new construction and renovation projects.

  • Ensures facilities maintain a high level of emergency preparedness at all times.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions

  • Ensure reliable efficient operation and upkeep of all mechanical electrical and plumbing systems campus-wide.

  • Implement proactive maintenance programs to extend equipment life reduce downtime and improve performance.

  • Maintain compliance with all codes standards and safety regulations; ensure documentation and inspections are current.

  • Manage and maintain mission-critical Mechanical Electric & Plumbing systems directly supporting healthcare ambulatory research and academic environments.

  • Provide engineering expertise support capital renewal projects and guide system upgrades to ensure long-term reliability.

  • Leadership & Customer Service: Lead and develop MEP staff manage vendors and deliver high-quality responsive service to all facility stakeholders.

  • Project Oversight: Plan manage and execute facilities operations projects for mechanical systems electrical and plumbing systems including repairs retrofits replacements and compliance-driven upgrades.

  • Contractor Management: Oversee vendor performance including bidding selection scheduling and quality assurance of contracted services for mechanical system work.

  • Budget & Schedule Management: Prepare and manage project budgets track expenses and monitor schedules to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure projects comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g. NFPA ASHRAE Joint Commission CMS OSHA state/local regulations).

  • Commissioning & Handover: Coordinate system testing validation and documentation. Ensure proper training and turnover of systems to facilities operations staff.

  • Operational Integration: Minimize disruptions to patient care by coordinating planned shutdowns phased work and system transitions with hospital departments.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate project records develop reports on project progress costs and compliance findings and provide updates to leadership.

  • Emergency Preparedness Support: Participate in emergency response planning and system recovery efforts serving as an essential team member during critical events.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve mechanical system reliability efficiency and sustainability through capital renewal and operational projects.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the liaison between Facilities Operations contractors compliance teams and clinical stakeholders to ensure alignment on scope safety and performance expectations.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in relevant field required

  • Minimum 8 years of experience.

  • Journeyman license preferred.

  • Ability to direct manage implement and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
