Position Overview:
The Workshop Technician will be responsible for overhauling and maintaining Jenbacher gas engines and engine components in a workshop environment. This role includes disassembly inspection repair and reassembly of reciprocating engines ensuring compliance with technical standards and safety protocols. The position requires strong mechanical skills attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team while maintaining quality standards.
This position will work onsite at our Waller TX facility. Hours are Monday Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM with occasional Saturdays as business demands.
Responsibilities:
- Disassemble and reassemble reciprocating engines and components including pistons connecting rods crankshaft camshaft cylinder heads liners and associated parts
- Perform complete engine overhauls: cleaning measuring and assessing components for wear and tolerances; reassembly following OEM specifications and torque settings; painting and finishing of components after overhaul
- Replace and calibrate major components such as fuel injectors pumps turbochargers governors oil pumps
- Perform precision alignment tasks (e.g. laser alignment of shafts and couplings)
- Operate and maintain a variety of workshop machinery and tools including lathe milling machine and welder to support the overhaul repair and fabrication of engine components and assemblies
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues (bearing failures piston scoring valve timing) and electronic and control systems (sensors wiring engine management software)
- Analyze engine failures using historical data and root cause analysis
- Test overhauled engines and components to ensure proper operation and safety compliance
- Operate workshop machinery (presses honing machines grinders) safely and efficiently
- Maintain accurate records of inspections repairs and parts usage
- Wear and maintain proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times ensuring compliance with company safety standards
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) protocols at all times
- Keep the workshop organized and maintain a clean working environment
- Collaborate with team members and provide technical guidance when needed
- Stay current with mechanical advancements and OEM updates
- Perform other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience as a mechanic workshop operator or field service technician working on reciprocating enginessuch as gas engines diesel engines or generator setsor similar equipment
- Hands-on experience with engine repairs including replacement of major components (pistons rods camshaft crankshaft flywheel oil pump cylinder heads liners)
- Proficient in using measurement tools and workshop machinery
- Proficiency in English with the ability to read interpret and create documentation reports and compliance records
- Customer-focused mindset with commitment to delivering high-quality service
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of reciprocating engine systems including gas and diesel engines and generator sets.
- Knowledge of engine overhaul procedures: disassembly inspection measurement and reassembly following OEM standards.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems (fuel systems turbochargers cooling systems) and basic electrical systems (engine controls sensors wiring).
- Competent in machining welding and fabrication techniques
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation drawings and OEM instructions
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electronic systems
- Ability to use precision measurement tools and diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting.
- Awareness of safety protocols PPE requirements and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards.
- Problem solving organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members
- Ability to stand sit walk use hands and fingers reach stoop kneel crouch crawl talk hear climb balance and maintain clear vision
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 7580 lbs.
- Ability to work in a workshop environment (heat noise lubricants cleaning agents)
