Position Summary
The Supervisor Interior Design leads the Customer Design by managing a specialized team responsible for delivering exceptional customer experience throughout the aircraft configuration journeyfrom the sales campaign through the configuration of interior materials and exterior paint schemes all the way to aircraft delivery. This role ensures that all customer selections are accurately captured in configuration documents and systems that flow into engineering configuration programs and production.
The Supervisor of Interior Design builds strong connections and leverages influence with Contracts Delivery Programs Sales Sales Engineering Product Strategy and Procurement to shape high-level decisions ensuring customer experience and design requirements remain central to strategic outcomes. Has a key role integrating with Industrial Design Supervisor to ensure customer feedback and critical configuration information become relevant inputs for future developments. While not directly responsible for new product development the supervisor aligns requirements and documentation to support innovation and process improvements. Internally this role is accountable for team readiness capability tracking task domain organization (customer-facing back-office support graphics and paint scheme specialists) performance evaluation career path clarity and compliance with new processes and standards.
Key performance indicators: Post-Delivery Agreement (PDA) costs remain near zero and WOW scores consistently approach 5.
Job Responsibilities
- Customer Configuration Oversight: Manages the end-to-end design configuration process for all aircraft interiors and exteriors from sale through delivery. Ensures the team provides excellence service guiding customer selection (materials finishes paint schemes) and is accurately documented in configuration systems and executed in line with contract specifications. This includes timely preparation of design packages (material specs guidelines finish lists drawings etc)
- Team Leadership & Readiness: Leads and mentors the interior design team to excel in customer specification sessions and reviews. Assigns team members to clearly defined roles e.g. customer-facing designers back-office visualization support graphics/paint scheme specialists based on their capabilities. Ensures the team is fully prepared for client meetings and that work is organized for optimum efficiency and quality output.
- Training & Performance Management: Develops team capabilities through ongoing training coaching and mentoring. Implements fair performance evaluation practices and establishes clear career paths so that each team member understands their growth opportunities and is evaluated against transparent criteria. Fosters a positive professional environment that encourages skill development and high performance.
- Process Governance & Standards Compliance: Defines and documents standard operating procedures workflows and job descriptions for the design configuration process. Maintains up-to-date process documentation and ensures strict adherence to new processes and Embraers design standards across all projects. This includes enforcing compliance with any updated corporate guidelines or quality standards related to interior design and configuration.
- Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement: Monitors and reviews all design deliverables from renderings and color boards to configuration data entries for accuracy completeness and alignment with Embraers brand standards. Works to minimize post-delivery modifications or costs (keeping Post-Delivery Agreement (PDA) issues near zero) by catching errors early. Champions continuous improvement by integrating customer feedback and industry best practices with the goal of maximizing client satisfaction (maintaining top WOW customer experience scores) and driving efficient error-free project execution.
- Production Alignment & Influence: Maintain strong relationships and exercise influence within the production environment to guarantee timely access to critical phases aircraft interior assembly. Ensure that all specifications agreed upon during customer specification meetings are accurately reflected on the production line mitigating risks and safeguarding quality throughout the delivery process.
Education
BS/BA Degree from accredited college or university in Interior / Industrial Design or related field desired.
Certified Interior Designer is preferred.
Experience
- Prefer 3 years of experience in People Management.
- Prefer 5 years executive aviation market experience is typical including advanced design and technical knowledge and/or experience in Aircraft Interior Design or Completions of VIP Aircraft.
- Prefer 5 years experience in supplier relations is a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of aircraft interior procurement manufacturing installation certification and delivery processes is preferred.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong leadership team building and people management skills with proven experience in supervising multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to establish and implement departmental goals and objectives aligned with business strategy. - Expertise in organizing task domains (customer-facing back-office support graphics and paint scheme specialists) to optimize efficiency and quality.
Skilled in performance evaluation and career path development to ensure fair assessments and team growth. - Familiarity with configuration systems and data integrity processes to ensure accurate flow of customer selections into engineering and production.
Knowledge of process governance and compliance standards including documentation and implementation of new workflows.
