DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: As the nations largest and most experienced provider of LGBT medical and mental health services we help LGBTQ people lead healthier happier lives by keeping their minds and body well. All services are free or at a low cost. Were also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who specialist in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our community.

JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Director Gynecologic & Reproductive Health Services will oversee the provision of gynecologic services and reproductive healthcare at the Center ensuring that care is evidence based trauma-informed and LGBT competent. Within the appropriate professional scope this position will assess and treat pelvic menstrual and menopause related concerns and perform office-based gynecologic addition to specialized gynecological primary care the role will provide primary care to a panel of assigned patients of diverse genders ages and chronic diseases states.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Medical Director

  • Develop and implement practice guidelines and clinical protocols regarding gynecological and reproductive care to ensure that care evidence based trauma-informed and LGBT competent
  • Collaborate with the Sr. Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer to identify new gynecologic and reproductive services based on community need
  • Oversee peer review activities regarding the provision of gynecologic and reproductive services at the Center
  • Collaborate with QI to optimize the practices cervical and breast cancer screening rates
  • Liaison with community partners and participate in community outreach events
  • Provide educational presentations to clinic staff regarding gynecologic and reproductive topics pertinent to the LGBT community

General Medical Provider Functions

  • Conduct clinical encounters with new and returning including taking a comprehensive history performing a medication reconciliation conducting physical exams developing a differential diagnosis ordering laboratory studies prescribing treatment and documenting a follow-up plan
  • Maintain a robust patient schedule and ensure that patient productivity goals are met
  • Demonstrate chart maintenance by keeping patient problem lists current
  • Follow practice EHR documentation standards and clinic policy in completing encounter notes; reviewing and signing lab results imaging reports and consults; and responding to refill requests and EHR messages
  • Participate in peer review exercises and complete mandatory training
  • Ensure completion of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits and clinical activities necessary to maintain current board certification and clinical privileges

Gynecologic & Reproductive Care

  • Within the scope of Family Medicine evaluate and treat existing patients with non-surgical gynecologic concerns referred by primary care; refer patients with gynecologic needs outside of scope to external specialist
  • Utilize ultrasound technology for basic gynecologic assessment and diagnosis
  • Perform office-based gynecologic procedures including endometrial biopsies excision/biopsy of vulvar lesions incision and drainage of Bartholin duct cysts insertion and removal of long-acting reversible rods and devices colposcopy cervical biopsy and polypectomy and loop electrosurgical excisions (LEEPs)
  • Provide consultations and education to primary care providers regarding gynecologic care in LGBT people

Primary Care Physician

  • Provide comprehensive LGBT competent primary care including preventative health screenings chronic disease management and gender affirming care to a panel of diverse patients
  • Refer patients to specialists as needed review specialist notes and incorporate findings into patient management
  • Complete patient related forms as clinically indicated
  • Participate in formal and informal care team case conferences and collaborate with nursing social work psychiatry and mental health staff to optimize patient health outcomes
  • Provide patient care to non-paneled patients and EHR desktop coverage during medical provider absences
  • Participate in the clinics on-call after-hours pool

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A passion for the Centers work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people
  • Valid license to practice medicine in the State of California unrestricted DEA license and BLS certification.
  • Successful completion of an ACGME or AOA-recognized accredited residency in Family Medicine
  • Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine
  • At least 5 years of direct clinical experience providing primary care to LGBT patients including gender affirming care
  • At least 5 years of direct clinical experience providing specialized gynecologic care to patients and documentation to attest to current competence in required gynecologic office-based procedures
  • Ability to provide trauma-informed sex and body positive harm reduction-oriented care
  • Demonstrated competence in the provision of pelvic care to people across the gender spectrum and with diverse physical presentations and chronic disease states
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong organizational and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to conduct medical interactions in Spanish preferred
  • Understanding of intersectional social determinants affecting LGBTQ health including racism sexism transphobia and income inequality
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races ethnicities nationalities sexual orientations gender identities gender expression socio-economic backgrounds religions ages English-speaking abilities immigration status and physical abilities in a multicultural environment
