Role Overview
The AI Engineering Senior Principal is the most distinguished technical position within The Cigna Groups AI Center of Enablement. This role operates at the intersection of advanced research enterprise-scale engineering and business strategy to define the future of AI technology within the organization and across the healthcare industry. It sets the 10-year vision for AI engineering anticipating paradigm shifts architecting next-generation platforms and driving cultural transformation in AI development and deployment.
As a recognized industry authority the Senior Principal influences internal technical direction and contributes to the evolution of AI through research standards and thought leadershippositioning The Cigna Group as a leader in healthcare AI innovation while improving cost quality and access for clients and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Define a 10-year vision for AI engineering capabilities anticipating multiple technology shifts.
Establish principles and technical identity for AI across the enterprise and industry.
Advise C-suite executives and board members on AI strategy risk and opportunity.
Architect next-generation AI platforms enabling capabilities beyond current business imagination.
Identify and operationalize breakthrough AI research ahead of mainstream adoption.
Build scalable secure and compliant AI infrastructure leveraging Python AWS Terraform and emerging technologies.
Drive strategic partnerships with leading AI companies universities and research institutions.
Publish research file patents and influence industry standards and best practices.
Lead cultural and technical transformation mentoring senior leaders and shaping career frameworks.
Ensure governance compliance and security while accelerating innovation and adoption.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a technical field; advanced degree preferred.
15 years in software engineering including 8 years building large-scale AI/ML systems.
Recognized industry expert with publications patents or major open-source contributions.
Deep expertise across AI architectures advanced techniques and healthcare regulatory requirements.
Proven ability to define and execute technical strategy with enterprise-wide impact.
Strong executive-level influence leadership and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
Experience as CTO Chief Architect or equivalent technical executive.
Published research at top-tier AI conferences; patents in AI/ML.
Advisory roles industry recognition and experience with healthcare operations and standards.
