Type of Appointment: Temporary Full Time (Not to exceed one year and one day from appointment. Based on the needs of the U.S. Probation Office and subject to the availability of funding. The U.S. Probation Office may extend this appointment past the period identified in this announcement.) *This position may be a career progression step toward becoming a United States Probation Officer Assistant (USPOA) or a United States Probation Officer (USPO) for qualified applicants. To be eligible for a USPOA or USPO opening candidates must meet all requirements for the USPO position to include: age medical and educational parameters.
Introduction:
The U.S. Probation Office for the Middle District of Florida is accepting applications for a Probation Services Technician in the Tampa Division. The Probation Services Technician provides technical administrative investigative and case management support to probation officers and officer assistants and other members of the court unit. This includes assisting during presentence investigations and post-conviction supervision. The incumbent will also assist with administrative support by electronically filing case documents assisting with database entries managing electronic case files and providing receptionist coverage and completing general clerical duties as needed.

Representative Duties:
Minimum Qualification and Experience:
To qualify for the entry level a person must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have at least two years of case management clerical office administrative or other work experience which provided knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
General Experience:
Progressively responsible case management clerical office or other work that indicates the possession of or the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the positions duties.
Educational Substitution:
Education above the high school level may be substituted for required general experience on the basis of one academic year (30 semester or 45 quarter hours) equals one year of general experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a field of academic study such as criminal justice criminology psychology sociology human relations business or public administration.
Currently performing similar duties in a legal human services and/or community corrections setting. Similar roles may include probation officer probation officer assistant case manager case worker client services specialist foster care specialist child protective services case worker or social worker.
Desirable Personal Characteristics:
The successful candidate must be able to maintain a professional demeanor work harmoniously with others and be responsive courteous and polite. Incumbent must be a perennial learner with the desire to be an expert in our changing field.
Conditions of Employment:
