JOB TITLE: Program Coordinator Contra Costa County Youth Center

LOCATION: District 3 Contra Costa County

SALARY/ RATE: $29.00 - $31.00 per hour DOE Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Full-time 40 hours per week

REPORTS TO: Program Manager of Workforce and Reentry in Contra Costa County

Position Overview:
This position oversees the day-to-day operations of an employment training and work experience program serving youth ages 12 to 18 in District 3 of Contra Costa County which includes the unincorporated areas of Bethel Island Byron Discovery Bay and Knightsen and the cities of Antioch Brentwood and Oakley. The person hired will play a critical role in helping youth and young adults develop the skills knowledge and experiences they need to succeed in high-growth industries attain post-secondary credentials and build pathways to sustainable careers. Working directly with participants aged 12-18 the Program Coordinator will provide tailored support to help them navigate both educational and workforce development systems. The program will use a differentiated approach based on age and developmental needs ensuring that each participant receives the appropriate level of career exploration guidance and hands-on experience.

As part of this new initiative the Program Coordinator will play a key role in developing and shaping the Youth Center. This includes establishing program systems building strategic partnerships with employers schools and community organizations and ensuring that all services align with the Countys goals for youth employment and development. The Program Coordinator will also provide direct supervision and mentorship to the Youth Facilitator offering the support guidance and training necessary to effectively engage youth participants and implement program addition the Program Coordinator will work directly with youth to provide individualized support helping them navigate educational pathways strengthen work readiness skills and access meaningful employment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the program including field trips career exposure and exploration activities scheduling presenters panelists trainers etc.
  • Enter and track all required participant data and create required reports for funders.
  • Engage with participants on a regular basis to monitor progress provide support and address any challenges that arise during their career journey.
  • Partner with other service providers to ensure an integrated approach to career and academic planning including referrals to additional support services.
  • Oversee outreach and recruitment for participants to engage in activities and services.
  • Responsible for screening enrollment engagement and retention of participants.
  • Primary point of contact for all participants.
  • Supervise the half-time Youth Facilitator.

Career Coaching Workforce Development and Pathway Creation:

  • Conduct individualized career assessments and develop career action plans that align with participants short- and long-term educational and career goals.
  • Provide tailored guidance on career exploration and job-readiness ensuring participants understand industry expectations and workforce opportunities.
  • Assist youth in resolving challenges during internships providing the tools and support needed to address workplace issues and develop professional problem-solving skills.
  • Facilitate exposure to career pathways by conducting assessments that gauge participants readiness for specific industries and design interventions to ensure they are prepared to succeed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers to establish internship apprenticeship and job placement opportunities that offer meaningful hands-on experience and a pathway to long-term employment.

Academic Support College Access and Post-secondary Retention:

  • Collaborate with educational partners to ensure participants remain on track with their academic and career goals providing guidance and support in navigating post-secondary education options.
  • Provide targeted assistance to first-year college students focusing on maximizing financial aid minimizing loan debt and ensuring students are equipped to make informed decisions about their educational paths.
  • Support students through the college application and enrollment processes guiding them through the UC and CSU systems and the FAFSA process.
  • Teach students essential skills such as self-advocacy persistence and positive behavior helping them overcome obstacles and stay committed to their academic and career goals.
  • Offer ongoing post-secondary support helping students navigate challenges and stay on course to complete their educational programs with minimal financial burden

Minimum Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Live Scan/fingerprinting (upon hire)
  • 3 years of experience in workforce development or career counseling
  • 3 years of experience working with multi-barrier youth and/or young adults (ages 12-18)
  • 3 years of experience in college counseling or supporting post-secondary access
  • Strong leadership collaboration and organizational skills with the ability to manage a caseload of 80 clients
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Proactive and self-directed with the ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with youth development frameworks work-based learning standards restorative justice and trauma-responsive approaches
  • High level of accountability and commitment to outcomes
  • Experience with data entry analysis and case management systems
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet program needs
