ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Environmental Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Environmental Health and Exposomics Assessment. The selected applicant will work on the development and validation of methods based on chromatographic separations and single-particle analysis coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry for population-based studies. The primary focus of this position will be the implementation of high-end analytical chemistry methods and high-throughput sample analysis in biological samples. The research fellow will work within the Department of Environmental Medicine and the Institute of Exposomic Research.
Eligible candidates may be supported by the T32 Postdoctoral Research Training Program in Environmental Pediatrics (T32HD049311).
QualificationsRequirements
A doctoral degree (e.g. PhD MD) is required. Additional qualifications include:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry with emphasis in atomic spectroscopy with hyphenated methods.
- Proficiency operating and maintaining analytical chemistry instrumentation including ICP-MS microwave digestion systems and chromatographic equipment.
- Experience performing experiments with single particle analysis and ICP-MS detection.
- Experience developing quantification strategies for alternative sample introduction system coupled to ICP-MS.
- Use of data analysis software to process analysis results Origin and ICP-MS data interpretation software.
- Experience in method development for both sample preparation and analysis by elemental quantification in single particle ICP-MS mode (nano particle and/or micro-plastics analysis)
- Strong track record publishing scientific papers and presenting at international conferences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in analytical chemistry.
Responsibilities
- Develop analytical methods dedicated to expanding the use of atomic spectrometry to the study of the human exposome using HLPC spICP-MS and LC-ICP-MS.
- Operate and maintain instrumentation including HPLC ICP-MS microwave digestion system sub distillation station and regular laboratory equipment.
- Validate the methods developed by internal and external proficiency testing evaluations.
- Ensure that the safety regulations are followed and assist in the generation of new safety measurements if the new methods require them.
- Write technical reports spatial assessments and presentations; ensure documentation and metadata standards are upheld.
- Publish originalresearchinpeerreviewedjournals.
- Work with PI seeking additional funding from NIH NSF and other organizations.
- Attend study meetings occasionally present research in progress reports.
- Supervise and collaborate with RAs and students on their research.
