Position Overview:

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a motivated and skilled professional to serve as the Educational Technology Coordinator at Illinois Youth Center (IYC) Harrisburg. Although based at IYC Harrisburg this position requires travel as the incumbent will provide comprehensive technology support services for School District/Extended Services School District #428 statewide ensuring all educational facilities are equipped with the tools and resources necessary for effective digital learning resources. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise experience managing educational technology systems and the ability to coordinate initiatives that enhance teaching and learning across multiple school sites.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college preferably in business or public administration.
  • Requires two years of responsible administrative experience in public educational or business organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates and oversees statewide technology support services for School District/Extended Services School District #428.

  • Serves as the primary liaison with DoIT to coordinate technology needs projects and service escalations.

  • Manages and tracks technology service requests installations maintenance and system upgrades.

  • Ensures compliance with state IT policies standards cybersecurity requirements and operational protocols.

  • Provides technical assistance troubleshooting and training to instructional and administrative staff.

  • Supports digital learning initiatives and classroom technology integration by monitoring system performance and resolving instructional-impacting issues.

  • Maintains documentation and reports related to technology operations and travels to facilities as needed to assess and support systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefers one (1) or more years of experience serving as a State Agency Technology Service Requestor (ATSR) an Educational Technology Coordinator or a State Agency Telecom Coordinator.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience working in ServiceNow software request system or other IT ticketing system.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience serving as an agency telecom coordinator or in a public sector telecom capacity.
  • Prefers an associate degree or higher in an IT-related field (e.g. computer science).
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience managing the procurement of IT hardware software and/or professional services in a public business or educational organization.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience conducting program activities in the information technology area of a public educational or business organization.
  • Prefers four (4) years of experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint and Teams and Google-based programs.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience tracking inventory.
  • Prefers prior experience working in a project management tracking system.

Specialized Skills:

  • Requires one (1) or more years of experience serving as a State Agency Technology Service Requestor (ATSR) an Educational Technology Coordinator or a State Agency Telecom Coordinator.
  • Requires one (1) year of experience working in ServiceNow software request system or other IT ticketing system.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to pass an IDJJ/IDOC background check.
  • Must be able to pass an IDJJ/IDOC drug screen.
  • Requires the ability to travel with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment and may include scheduled unscheduled or last-minute overtime.
  • Requires the ability to attend seminars conferences and trainings to stay current on methods tools technologies and other industry-related topics relevant to job duties.
  • This position is considered sedentary work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(a)); involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and requires occasional lifting carrying walking and standing.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply. Employees must notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General (OEIG) prior to accepting certain non-state employment offers or may be subject to a fine.
  • This position meets the requirements of Section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest and a Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Executive Order 15-09.

About the Agency:

The mission of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is to build youth skills and strengthen families by promoting community safety and positive youth outcomes. Over 900 staff members from across various departmentssecurity programming education mental health and morecollaborate with the understanding that youth are physically emotionally and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency engages families and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois communities.
