ABOUT THE CITY MANAGERS OFFICE:
The Assistant to the City Manager provides advanced administrative and analytical support to the City Manager Assistant/Deputy City Managers and indirectly to the City Council. This position offers a fast-paced highly creative and meaningful work experience with opportunities for continued learning and growth.

The City Managers Office provides strategic leadership and oversight for the entire organization ensuring the City Councils mission and vision are carried out effectively.

The City Manager Assistant City Manager Deputy City Managers and administrative staff all work cohesively to best serve Team RC and deliver exceptional service to the community at-large. This collaborative approach extends across all city departments guiding and supporting the organizations efforts to achieve the City Councils strategic goals.

Youll be responsible for:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the City Managers Office providing support and leadership for a variety of multi-departmental programs and initiatives.
  • Providing complex administrative and coordination support to the City Manager and City Manager Team including logistics for annual projects and programs preparation and follow up for meetings presentations and travel.
  • Overseeing the City Manager Offices budget supporting and/or leading CIP projects evaluating fiscal impacts on a variety of legislation programs and services.
  • Leading the Citys legislative advocacy program researching writing administrating and reporting on a variety of opportunities for grants and awards.
  • Conducting complex and sensitive administrative operational and management analyses studies and researchprojects using appropriate research and statistical techniques.
  • Representing the City in relations with the community advisory committees local state and federal agencies and professional organizations.
  • Participating as a member of the Citys leadership team.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED

Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelors degree in public or business administration or other related field and six years of progressively responsible local government experience including two years of supervisory experience or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities. A Masters degree in public or business administration or additional professional coursework training and certification are desirable.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of management theory; functions and services of City government and the roles of the City Council and City Commissions ;supervisory and management skills; ability to coach and improve the performance and skills of other employees and manage personnel challenges; public and staff relations; methods of research program analysis and report preparation; writing methods and techniques; project management practices; budgeting practices; media relations; customer service techniques. Ability to plan direct and coordinate City-wide projects; establish and maintain effective relationships with staff management community groups the City Council and other public officials; organize projects and assignments; conduct research and write and present reports; analyze and solve administrative operational and organizational problems; interpret and apply laws regulations ordinances and policies ;communicate effectively both orally and in writing; operate computer hardware and utilize word processing spreadsheet and graphics presentation software applications; work independently.

Licenses Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid Class C California drivers license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Citys Vehicle Insurance Policy. Ability to work extended hours.
