Job Summary

Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin (CMHA Peel Dufferin) is pleased to partner with various agencies in the Peel Region to offer services to the local community at the *new* Brampton based Homeless and Addictions Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub.

HART Hubs are community-based care hubs designed to address mental health addiction and housing needs for people experiencing homelessness. They provide integrated care offering a wide range of services such as primary care mental health services addiction care and employment supports. With targeted community outreach and rapid referral pathways HART Hubs aim to support individuals with complex needs helping them recover achieve housing stability and inclusion.

We are looking for a full-time Trauma Counsellor to join our team!

As part of a multi-disciplinary team the Trauma Counsellor will provide responsive integrated care to individuals seeking treatment for substance use/concurrent disorders and collaborate on treatment plans and clinical case presentations.


Status:Permanent full-time 37.5 hours per week flexibility for weekends as needed. Note this posting is for an active vacancy.
Salary:$74028.74 - $87411.79 annually. (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)
Location:This position is based out of 10 Peel Centre Drive Brampton office. Due to the nature of this program this role is on-site and/or community based.


What You Will Do:

  • Conduct individual therapy sessions adheringtraumaprotocoland best practices
  • Conduct comprehensivestandardizedmental health assessments including risk assessments
  • Devise and deliver therapeutic treatmentsto ensure progress toward goals including management of crisis and life-threatening behaviors
  • Facilitaterecovery and/ortrauma-orientedgroups as needed including developing new group materials.
  • Update allappropriate documentationwithin 24 hours of client contact
  • Communicate information both oral and writtenregardingassessments treatment plans and evaluations to the treatment team client referralsourceand other caregivers within practice/agency/legal guidelines
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with teams internal and external to CMHA/Peel Dufferin
  • Establish andmaintainprofessional alliances with collateral agencies/institutions
  • Provideresponsive integrated care to individuals seeking treatment forconcurrent disorders
  • Regularlyassess forrisk andrespondwith mitigation strategies including providing crisis intervention and de-escalation supports and connecting to crisis services when appropriate
  • Participate in internal or external committees including the Counselling Community of Practice as requested by Manager

What You Need to Join Our Team

  • AMasterslevel degree in psychology social work or relevant health or social science field
  • Registration with a regulatory college
  • Excellent understanding of Trauma Focused CognitiveBehavioralTherapy(TF-CBT)
  • Minimum of3years experience in providing individual and group-based comprehensiveTrauma Focused Cognitive BehavioralTherapy
  • Minimum 3years of experience within the health services sector with in-depth knowledge of complex clinical issues
  • Experience working with individuals who have complex mental health and addictions issues
  • Experience working with individuals who engage in self-harming and self-injuriousbehaviorsor who are athigh riskto do so
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multidisciplinary team and evidence of an ability to collaborate and partner
  • Working knowledge and/or an understanding of various disciplines; including but not exclusive of mental health substance use harm reduction newcomer challenges and barriers faced by those in marginalized populations
  • Demonstrated cultural competence ability to work and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity equity inclusion and belonging as well as an understanding of social determinants of health and impact on vulnerable communities
  • Knowledge of a variety of evidence-informed treatment modalities including motivational interviewing and trauma informed practices
  • Experienced at engaging in matters that require sensitivity and empathy across a diverse community excellent judgement and discretion; ability to operate with various frameworks including culturally sensitive anti-racist anti-oppressive 2SLGBTQ affirming and intersectional
  • Valid Canadian drivers license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
