Job Title: Door Assembly Technician
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Status: Full-time
Position Summary: Assemble doors frames and related hardware to specification. Read work orders and drawings prepare components perform machining as needed install hardware and glazing and verify fit/function and quality prior to packaging and shipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review work orders drawings and hardware schedules; confirm materials finishes handing and quantities.
- Prepare and machine door and frame components as required: hinge and latch mortises vision lite/louver openings drilling/tapping.
- Assemble doors and frames; square clamp and verify dimensions.
- Install hardware: hinges pivots locks strikes flush bolts viewers thresholds weatherstripping/gaskets and accessories.
- Perform glazing: install glass/vision kits stops setting blocks and sealants per spec.
- Conduct in-process and final checks: dimensions hole locations clearances swing/handing latch/lock function ADA and fire-label requirements (where applicable).
- Document work: checklists serial/label traceability nonconformance reports.
- Rework/repair minor defects and escalate issues that require MRB/supervisor review.
- Package assemblies and hardware kits for shipment; apply labels protective wrap and instructions.
- Maintain a clean safe organized work area (5S); perform basic tool/machine maintenance.
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements; participate in continuous improvement.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 13 years of experience in door/hardware assembly architectural millwork cabinet/fixture assembly or similar manufacturing. Entry-level considered with strong mechanical aptitude.
- Able to read shop drawings and hardware schedules; proficient with a tape measure squares and basic shop math (fractions/decimals).
- Comfortable with hand and power tools: drills drivers routers mortisers saws riveters; basic drill press use.
- Preferred: familiarity with hollow metal/wood/aluminum systems;
- Attention to detail and craftsmanship; accurate layout and hole placement.
- Mechanical/problem-solving skills; ability to diagnose and correct fit/function issues.
- Time management to meet task/schedule; teamwork and clear communication.
- Basic computer/ERP use for work orders barcoding and documentation.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
- Stand bend and lift 5075 lbs regularly; handle large/bulky parts safely.
- Use of PPE (safety glasses back brace hearing protection gloves respirator as required).
- Ability to operate pallet jacks/forklifts (or willingness to obtain certification).
Certifications (preferred not required):
- OSHA 10 forklift certification.
- First-pass yield and rework rate.
- Assembly throughput/task adherence and on-time completion.
- Safety compliance and housekeeping.
- Warranty/field return rate (hardware/function issues).
Compensation and Benefits:
- Pay range: $18.00 - $22.00 to start (based on market/experience)
