    PURPOSE
    Provides security for an assigned school campus; performs related work as required.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    The primary function of an employee in this class is to provide interior and exterior security services to students staff and facilities at an assigned school campus. The position is supervised by the building Principal or a Vice-Principal. The primary duties of the position are performed in a school campus environment including exposure to inclement weather and possible personal hazards involved in security and enforcement duties.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Patrols school campus including interior and outside areas to enforce school and District rules and policies;
    • Ensures the exterior security of campus including parking lots outside campus and mall areas patrolling for vandalism break-ins thefts speeding and reckless driving and other school rule and legal violations;
    • Ensures interior security including hallways lockers classrooms restrooms suspension and detention areas cafeteria and recreation and activity areas;
    • Issue citations for student violations;
    • Identifies and reports violations of school and District rules and policies to appropriate supervisor or administrator;
    • Identifies and arranges for the removal of non-students undesirables and others without permission or legitimate business on campus;
    • Provides security at ball games and other school activities;
    • Assists law enforcement officers with investigations of parking lot accidents thefts vandalism assaults and related criminal incidents and legal violations;
    • Assists in selling parking permits to students and enforcement of permit use;
    • Assists in providing first aid to students until medical assistance arrives;
    • May assist in removing disruptive students from a classroom cafeteria school grounds or other building area as required;
    • Prepares and maintains documents reports records files and related documentation of incidents and violations;
    • Assists students with behavior modification conflict management and resolution making correct choices recognizing consequences and other related social skills;
    • Assists teachers with reports and documentation;
    • Maintains student and District confidentiality;
    • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies procedures and safety practices

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • School and District rules codes standards and expected student behaviors;
    • Basic law enforcement and investigative methods techniques and objectives;
    • School and District policies on discipline punishment and criminal prosecution;
    • Disciplinary and behavior modification methods techniques and objectives;
    • Conflict resolution and mediation techniques methods and objectives;
    • Operation of basic security equipment;
    • Operation of standard office equipment including a personal computer.

    Ability to:
    • Follow written and oral instructions and observe District policies and procedures;
    • Perform security patrol and investigative tasks;
    • Monitor and handle or remove students presenting disruptive aggressive or other disciplinary law enforcement or safety problems;
    • Prepare maintain and present required security and investigative reports records and documentation;
    • Maintain student and District confidentiality;
    • Operate basic security equipment including surveillance equipment and a two-way radio;
    • Operate standard office equipment and a personal computer using programs appropriate to assigned duties;
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students teachers and staff members and other District personnel;
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
    • Demonstrate integrity ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required; and
    • Law enforcement experience is preferred; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES
    • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing with or without reasonable accommodation which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions communicate effectively in person and by two-way radio and to hear sounds within the normal range of conversation;
    • Sufficient visual acuity with or without reasonable accommodation which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions comprehend review and prepare a variety of written and text documents and materials and discern suspicious activities against a backdrop of normal campus activities;
    • Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation which permits the employee to operate office equipment including a personal computer and operate specialized security equipment;
    • Sufficient personal mobility agility strength and reflexes with or without reasonable accommodation which permits the employee to stand or sit for long periods of time lift up to 20 pounds patrol a school campus and work in an enforcement environment.
