Job Summary

The YMCA of Southern Interior BC (YSIBC) is seeking an experienced Facility Manager to lead a diverse team at the Kelowna Family Y in the beautiful city of Kelowna.

This position reports to the General Manager and provides leadership to the Facilities and Housekeeping team. It requires a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the entire facility including all equipment and systems. The role involves performing a wide range of skilled tasks includingbut not limited tosafety enhancements troubleshooting maintenance modifications repairs and project work related to hydraulic plumbing HVAC swimming pools hot tubs and steam rooms.

  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the swimming pools hot tubs steam room facility equipment and processing systems.
  • Carry out all aspects of preventive and reactive maintenance while following all health and safety regulations as well as necessary unscheduled repairs of HVAC mechanical plumbing lighting and electrical systems.
  • Maintain the asset management ticketing and maintenance system including work performed inventory materials and equipment used.
  • Lead activities within Maintenance Process from work identification to work planning scheduling execution and follow-up.
  • Lead the housekeeping team which includes day cleaners and night cleaners
  • Work collaboratively with all leaders both within the centre as well as within the organization.
  • Maintain a wide variety of power tools in good / safe working condition.
  • Comply and adhere to WCB OHS and WHIIMIS standards requirements and practices.
  • Be an active member of the organizations Health and Safety committee
  • Recruit onboard and train new staff and volunteers to backfill existing positions or create new vacancies to align with the growth within the facility
  • Support staff in dealing with operational challenges. Monitor staff performance and coach/discipline where needed.
  • Coordinate housekeeping and maintenance tasks ensuring both teams are supporting each other.
  • Communicate and coordinate maintenance work (where applicable) with the Center manager and City of Kelowna ensuring a positive working relationship with all parties.
  • Communicate with external governing bodies such as WorkSafe BC Technical Safety BC Public Health Department and City of Kelowna Trades department
  • Support all departments to ensure minimal impact to daily operations
  • Prepare annual operational budget monitor monthly and maintain regular reporting and projections
  • Ensure the safety of all members participants staff and property
  • Train and support staff in other facilities as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Wed love to hear from people with:

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in a management capacity with a similar setting including a mix of technical skills customer service and contract management
  • Required Minimum 4th Class Power Engineer Ticket
  • Valid Class 5 drivers License
  • Occupational First Aid WHMIS certificate and Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate Pool Operator Level 1 & 2 Confined Spaces training Asbestos Training are all assets.
  • Knowledge of Limble platform an asset
  • Ability to work any day/any shift
  • Strength energy and mobility to perform heavy physical lifting of machinery and parts is essential. Lifting up to 50lbs. Able to operate mobile equipment including forklifts boom-lifts scissor lifts etc.
  • Exposure to loud noises and required to wear various personal protective equipment while working
