In the Global Cloud Tribe in the Data Services area a position is available for an Microsoft SQL Server Engineer.

The team

The purpose of the Global Cloud Tribe is to build and run the target infrastructure platform in a (private) cloud delivery model. This delivery model is based on multi-tenant self-service pay-per-use capabilities for application DevOps teams as defined in INGs One Way of Working.

The Global Cloud Tribe comprises five Global Areas:

• Infrastructure as a Service

• Data Services

• Integration Area

• Cloud API Management

• Container Area

Microsoft SQL Server is part of the area Data Services and is all about providing a standardized self-managed SQL Server data platform to DevOps teams of ING worldwide. The MS SQL squad is based in the Netherlands (Amsterdam Office) and takes responsibility for productizing new versions delivering patches and creating new features.

Roles and Responsibilities

With your pragmatic and delivery-oriented professional attitude you put your background and experience to good use as an experienced engineer for MS SQL Server.

Together with the squad the Product Owner and the architect you design built test and maintain the four major MS SQL Server related offerings in INGs private addition you use your knowledge to propose solutions for modernizing MS SQL server deploy methods to ensure robust and future proof installations of this product.

The HR responsibility is assigned to the Chapter Leads of Data Services area and he or she will be your contact in this.

Key responsibilities

Together with a squad of 5 engineers you work on the future of the MS SQL Server product and for staying within our risk appetite:

• Develop Powershell and T-SQL scripts

• Create and maintain code stored in Azure DevOps Repositories and distribute using CD/CI tools and pipelines

• Develop API based work flows

• Be familiar with Agile / Scrum way of work

• Be a strong team player and cooperate with global ING teams

• Develop a view on improving the deployment methods for the MS SQL Server installations in the future.

• On a regular basis take the Ops-person-of-the-week task and handle the incidents and consumer questions the team receives.

• Execute scheduled tasks that need to be executed to keep the risk score of the teams services as low as possible.

You are an energetic and proactive (software) engineer with a true passion for MS SQL Server and a positive Do it-Try it-Fix it mentality. You have good understanding of Software Engineering and CI/CD. You are a natural team player who forms relationships based on social skills rather than hierarchical structure. As engineer you are able to share your knowledge in the team and coach other engineers when necessary.

Our ideal new colleague has:

• Powershell and T-SQL skills

• MS SQL Server Analysis Services Reporting Services and MS SQL Server AlwaysOn knowledge and work experience

• Experience in SQL Server installation automation

• Well versed in Azure DevOps CD/CI tools and pipelines

• Develop skills using API based work flows

• Familiar with Agile / Scrum way of work

• Experience in analysis strong documentation skills and good ability to break down requirements into Scrum user stories

• Previous experience working in mature agile environments

• Ideally experience with our ING Private Cloud (IPC) infrastructure

• Higher education in (Information) Technology or work experience that demonstrates you operate on this level

• Excellent command of English language. Dutch language is an advantage but not a must have
