Position Summary

The Senior Network and Telco Engineer is responsible for designing configuring and maintaining secure and reliable network and telecommunications infrastructure across all Pinnacle Propane locations in the United States. This role ensures optimal performance and security of firewalls switches cabling mobile and landline services and related hardware/software. The position is accountable for conducting semi-annual firewall reviews maintaining accurate records of all network and telco changes and safeguarding the organizations network against threats. Additionally the engineer provides expert support to internal users and external vendors including internet and phone service providers to troubleshoot and resolve connectivity and communication issues efficiently.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Design configure and maintain network and telecom infrastructure across all Pinnacle Propane locations in the U.S.
  • Manage and secure Fortinet firewalls including policy configuration and semi-annual security reviews.
  • Ensure network security compliance by implementing best practices and monitoring for vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all network and telecom hardware/software changes and configurations.
  • Monitor network performance and proactively address issues to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and telecom problems for internal users and external vendors.
  • Coordinate with ISPs and telecom providers for installation maintenance and issue resolution of internet and phone lines.
  • Telecommunications expense management.
  • Oversee structured cabling and hardware installations including switches routers and related equipment.
  • Assist with disaster recovery planning and implement redundancy strategies for critical locations.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance network security and efficiency.

Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Fortinet Firewall Expertise: Configuration policy management and security audits.
  • Network Infrastructure: Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN design routing and switching.
  • Protocols: Strong understanding of TCP/IP BGP OSPF MPLS QoS and IPv6.
  • Network Security: Threat mitigation intrusion detection/prevention VPNs SSL/TLS SSH and compliance with security standards.
  • Telecom Systems: Experience with VoIP SIP PBX systems and mobile/landline provisioning.
  • Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network and telco issues quickly.
  • Cabling & Hardware: Hands-on experience with structured cabling switches routers and service provider edge equipment.
  • Documentation: Accurate record-keeping for hardware/software changes and compliance.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical thinking and decision-making under pressure.

Desirable Skills

  • Wireless Technologies: Experience in WLAN design optimization and troubleshooting.
  • Monitoring tools such as FortiManager.
  • Project Management.
  • Vendor Management: Ability to coordinate effectively with ISPs telecom providers and hardware vendors.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Experience in designing and implementing network redundancy and failover strategies.
  • Documentation Standards: Ability to create clear technical documentation and diagrams for audits and compliance.
