The Resource Coordinator Genetic Counseling reflects the mission vision and values of NM adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzes genetic information identifies patients/families at risk for specific disorders or syndromes.
- Interviews patients reviews medical records and obtains comprehensive patient/family medical histories.
- Explains diagnostic procedures (chorionic villi sampling ultrasound fetal blood sampling and amniocentesis).
- Interprets laboratory results communicates findings to patients and/or physicians.
- Provides counseling information and education to patients families/caregivers discusses testing options associated risks benefits and limitations and assists patients in making informed decisions.
- Addresses patients psychological or emotional needs. Makes referral recommendations or assists patients in managing test outcomes.
- Determines or coordinates treatment plans requests laboratory services reviews genetics or counseling literature considers histories or diagnostic data.
- Provides recommendations for standards of care based on evaluations of regulatory compliance ethics policy and patient satisfaction.
- Works with physicians to provide lectures supervises and mentors graduate students residents fellows and participates in clinical research program.
Additional Functions:
- Serves as first point of contact for supporting genetic counselors on daily issues.
- Provides training and orientation to new genetic counselors and support staff.
- Serves as a liaison to external laboratories and referring practices.
- Attends and actively participate in programmatic meetings.
- Assists with managing provider schedules to optimize patient care hours to enhance productivity.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures as needed to support the program.
- Collaborates with clinical and administrative leadership on programmatic growth strategies.
- Ensures that patient dignity and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Required:
- Genetic Counselor Licensed (IL).
- Board Certified/Eligible in Genetic Counseling.
Preferred:
- At least five (5) years of genetic counseling experience.
