Job Summary

Position Summary

The University of Denver is seeking motivated and qualified Lifeguard Instructors to start classes beginning in January 2026. Lifeguard Instructors play a crucial role in the safety and health of the DU community.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare for and successfully instruct Red Cross Blended Lifeguarding courses (AP-HSSAQU402-BL-r.24 Lifeguarding-BL) at the Daniel L. RitchieCenter.
  • Instruct all classes in accordance with American Red Cross and University of Denver policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other Lifeguard Instructors on materials scheduling etc.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Willingness to learn and comply with our facility specific health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to sit stand speak and swim for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and professionally with other faculty staff and patrons.

Required Qualifications

  • A Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous lifeguard instructor training.
  • Previous lifeguarding or aquatics experience.

Work Schedule

Classes occur on weekends from once to twice a month. Class schedule is as follows:

  • Friday - 5:00pm-8:30pm
  • Saturday - 8:30am-6:00pm
  • Sunday - 8:30am-6:00pm

Hourly Range

The hourly range for the position is $22.00 - $26.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
