This position is responsible for supervisory and administrative work in the Department of Public Works Operations and Utilities Divisions. This position provides supervision to Crew Leader Maintenance Worker I and Maintenance Worker II employees.
Work involves responsibility for planning assigning and supervising the work of subordinate supervisory and maintenance personnel engaged in a variety of Public Works activities. Work is normally received in the form of written requests or general directions from a superior and is normally accomplished through delegation to subordinate personnel although the Section Manager may participate in the work. The Section Manager is expected to organize the details of the task assignment and ensure the maintenance of performance standards and schedules. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Public Works Superintendent. The Section Manager reviews work through site inspection and oral and written reporting from the Section Crew Leader. The Section Manager is responsible for reviewing and signing off on all reports submitted for assigned Section tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Works closely with Crew Leader to establish Section Goals organize schedules coordinate the assignment of tasks equipment and staffing plan and provide specific Section training to employees.
Trains and mentors Crew Leader as part of the larger Public Works succession plan. The Section Manager is responsible for training the Section Crew Leader in all aspects of technology leadership team building discipline department policy and procedure.
Plans organizes schedules assigns and inspects the work of subordinates engaged in Building Maintenance Streets Water Drainage Sanitary Sewers Fleet and Forestry sections.
Prepares schedules for and assigns crews through the Section Crew Leader to various activities; confers with Section Crew Leader and gives direction and discusses work progress and problems; periodically inspects and provides oversight for work in progress and upon completion to ensure adherence to schedules and performance standards; investigates and attempts to resolve citizen inquiries related to the work.
Orders the supplies needed for the sections activities. Follow all village polices when creating POs in New World.
Assists Superintendent in the preparation of the annual budget by estimating manpower equipment contracts and supply needs; evaluates subordinate personnel and recommends disciplinary actions promotions and salary increases as appropriate; conducts the initial interview and makes employment recommendations for new personnel.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and considerable experience in work related to the area of assignment or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the types and uses of tools materials and equipment related to the area of assignment.
Through knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of automotive equipment used in the work.
Through knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.
Ability to organize assign and effectively supervise the work of subordinates.
Ability to maintain required work records and to prepare reports.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to meet such physical requirements as may be established by competent authority.
Skills in the use of tools and equipment required for the work.
Possess a valid Class B Air and Tanker endorsement Illinois Commercial Drivers License.
Possess or able to possess a valid License related to your section in 1 year.

Report all accidents to supervisor immediately.

May be required to lift heavy objects and equipment more than 50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals and solvents. When responding to emergencies employees risk physical hazard from fire smoke and extreme heat. Subject to 24-hour call back for emergency repairs.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The salary range for this position is $87008.48 ($41.83/hour) to $129671.36 ($62.34/hour) based on 2080 annual hours (DOQ). Overtime is an expectation of this position and requires the ability to report to work within one (1) hour of contact. Overtime is paid at a compensatory rate of 1.5 unless worked on an observed holiday at which point the rate is 2.0. Full-time employees are allowed to convert overtime hours worked into Comp time equivalent to the OT rate earned and bank to use those hours in accordance with Policy and Procedure later. Full time employees are assigned to a call back schedule for the duration of the winter season as part of snow & ice control or utility repair crews.
Full-time employees are enrolled in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). Full time employees may select between several offered benefits including medical insurance plans including dental and vision programs. Dental Vision and basic life insurance are 100% paid by the Village.
Full time employees are provided a full suite of PTO including Vacation Holiday Sick Comp etc. (some forms of PTO are earned/accrued and may be prorated during your first partial year of service).
