About the job

As the Treasury Officer you will be responsible for all operations of EMBLs banking function In particular you will ensure processes and procedures are in place for all aspects of the banking operations which meet EMBLs regulatory requirements as well as best practice standards and generally accepted accounting practice. You will monitor and forecast the cash position of the organisation and oversee and advise on the cost effectiveness of external banking and investment provision.

The principle tasks of this role will include:

Cash flow management

  • Forecast cash flow requirements ensure that sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational and capital requirements
  • Negotiate with banks and the like for exchange rates and term deposit rates
  • Daily cash and liquidity management which includes moving funds to optimise interest terms
  • Stay up to date with developments in the international treasury area in order to identify relevant areas which may impact the organisation

Transactional banking

  • Managing and process all forms of transactions (both manual and automated) going through all the organisations bank accounts in various currencies e.g. standing orders debit orders cheques electronic payments SEPA BACS international transfers via the relevant banking portals receipts etc
  • Perform and manage daily bank reconciliations together with managing any clearing accounts
  • Manage payment runs ensuring these occur in a timely manner including ensuring sufficient signatories are on site
  • Responsible for relevant month-end and year-end processing as well as deal with internal and external auditors in respect to the treasury function
  • Maintain all banks master data as well as foreign exchange rates
  • Administer and maintain banking relationships
  • Other ad hoc accounting related task as needed

Petty cash

  • Manage EMBL petty cash accounts including the verification of supporting documentation checking for completeness accuracy regular processing of transactions and ensuring accurately reconciliations.

Internal controls

  • Ensure sound running of internal controls across the treasury function working closely with team members
  • Improve and implement internal controls where required

General tasks

  • Proactively resolve problems and liaise with other members of the Finance team as well as staff in other areas particularly Budget Office Procurement and Grants Office
  • Keep informed of changes in generally accepted accounting practices being able to apply new standards or changes
  • Be able to project manage smaller projects within Finance
  • Ensure that a high quality service is provided to EMBL customers and that communication with the rest of EMBL is effective and productive with other parts of the Administration as well as the Research community

You have

  • Minimum of 3 years in a comparable role.

  • A relevant financial qualification or part qualified or qualified by experience.

  • Experience of using financial systems.

  • Good data and analytical skills.

  • Good communication skills and the ability and willingness to liaise with a broad range of diverse stakeholders.

  • A good eye for detail.

  • Fluency in German and English is required

You may also have

  • Experience working with Workday Finance

Contract length: 3 years (renewable up to 9)

Starting salary: Grade 4 (Starting salary 3705 EUR or higher depending on experience and qualifications)
