We operate across Australia with major base locations in NSW and the NT. Our specially trained doctors nurses paramedics and aircrew use helicopters turbo prop aircraft aeromedical jets and patient transport vehicles to provide critical support to over 9300 patients each year. We also deploy medical professionals and aircraft in support of defence government and commercial contracts and energy and resource sector sites.
The role:
We currently have an opportunity for Retrieval Specialists to join the organisation and be a key member of CareFlights Rapid Response Helicopter team in Westmead.
Reporting to the Medical Director CareFlight Rapid Response Helicopter and the General Manager Clinical the key objectives for this role are:
Delivery of the highest standard of patient care in the pre-hospital and retrieval environment
Active participation and delivery of a non-clinical portfolio as agreed with the CRRH MD
Active participation in clinical quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

Compliance with DAMP and fatigue policies and CASA regulations regarding MTS personnel
To be successful in this role you will meet the following criteria:
Essential
Specialist in anaesthesia emergency medicine or intensive care. At least a 0.5FTE in your home speciality
Current Specialist Medical Registration with AHPRA with no conditions
Currently work in a Major or Regional Trauma Centre
Previous retrieval experience (as a Registrar or Specialist)
Extensive experience and proven ability in the management of critically ill patients including trauma; both within the hospital and within the out-of-hospital environment including patient transportation
Current or recent experience in managing critically ill / injured paediatric patients
Successful completion of CareFlights pre-employment physical assessment and maintain above average physical fitness to a level to pass annual Functionality Assessment
Successful completion of pre-employment DAMP screening
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team
Ability to work in conjunction with other emergency services and safely adapt clinical practice as required
Participation in research and/or clinical governance activities
Flexibility in rostering to allow additional shifts to be undertaken as required
Willingness to undertake annual currency checks receive and act on feedback and ongoing learning module requirements (both medical and aviation)
Desirable
Recognised post-graduate qualification in prehospital retrieval medicine or willingness to undertake
Completion of relevant courses for example life limb and sight saving procedures EMST / ETM or Advanced Paediatric Life Support or equivalents
Demonstrated research experience
Demonstrated experience in Clinical Education
Completion of Paediatric Advance Life Support course or equivalent
