Position Summary The Stress Test Technician (RN) is responsible for performing cardiac stress testing procedures under the direction of a cardiologist or supervising provider. This role ensures safe accurate diagnostic testing while monitoring patients hemodynamic status recognizing clinical changes and providing appropriate nursing intervention when necessary. The RN collaborates with cardiology clinical staff and diagnostic services to maintain high-quality patient care and clinical outcomes. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Conducts exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress tests according to established protocols and provider orders. Performs pre-test patient assessments including health history medications vital signs and contraindication screening. Places and monitors EKG leads blood pressure oxygen saturation and other physiologic indicators throughout testing. Identifies EKG changes arrhythmias symptoms or safety concerns and escalates or intervenes based on nursing scope of practice. Administers medications used in stress testing (e.g. Lexiscan/regadenoson dobutamine) per protocol and RN licensure authority. Documents all procedures patient responses and clinical data in the EMR. Provides patient education regarding the procedure expectations risks and follow-up instructions. Ensures equipment functionality cleanliness and readiness; troubleshoots common issues. Collaborates with cardiologists technologists and diagnostic imaging teams to coordinate testing and patient flow. Maintains compliance with regulatory standards (e.g. Joint Commission state nursing practice acts departmental policies). Required Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (unencumbered). BLS ACLS certification(s) Knowledge of cardiac physiology EKG interpretation and cardiovascular medications. Ability to respond to cardiac emergencies and provide immediate nursing interventions. Strong communication and patient-education skills.
