The Director Global Capital Project Delivery (GCPD) supports Capital Services and Solutions (CS&S) capital construction projects across either a dedicated site or multiple sites within Global Product Development & Supply (GPS) and Research & Early Development (R&ED). This role reports functionally to the Executive Director of GCPD and is matrixed to the Senior Director GCPD Eastern US. This leader will directly manage a portfolio of site-specific capital projects overseeing their lifecycle execution using project controls methodologies in alignment with the Capital Solutions Governance model and standards. The Director will provide direct management and guidance to both full-time employees and contracted resources at their site leveraging industry knowledge internal best practices and standards to deliver capital projects on schedule and within budget. The capital project portfolio at each site ranges from a few million dollars to an aggregate budget of several hundred million. This position will be directly responsible for a large ($50M$150M) state-of-the-art life science portfolio of capital projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of capital projects with emphasis on R&ED Laboratories and Chemical Development Projects as well as site utility and infrastructure upgradesin support of the business strategy
  • Ensure compliance with Bristol Myers SquibbGlobal Engineering Governance model standards (including all applicable safety regulatory legal requirements) and finance requirements
  • Ensure appropriate internal and external resources are incorporated into capital project design and execution and provide financial oversight through management of scope and regular review of change requests schedule cost and cash flow projections risk management monthly project reporting and financial audit preparation
  • Lead the scheduling planning control and effective coordination of all the parallel activities related to each project and maintain project schedule through minimal unanticipated schedule challenges
  • Collaborate with Global Engineering Facilities Procurement and site leadership to develop and analyze capital project cash flow forecasts suggest risk adjustments as needed and deliver cost-effective capital projects to end users
  • Mentor and lead network learning and best practice sharing to build an efficient high-performing department
  • Achieve high customer satisfaction by delivering finished projects on time that are fully commissioned qualified and ready for startup/occupancy and meet all requirements of stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Chemical/Mechanical preferred). PMP certification & EIT/PE License a plus
  • Minimum 10-15 years experience managing pharmaceutical capital projects (Manufacturing Lab Office Pilot Plant etc.) inclusive of planning design procurement scheduling execution commissioning & qualification technical transfer of technology and concepts (as applicable) and closeout
  • Demonstrated project controls skills in budgeting change event analysis change management reporting and forecasting scheduling claims and management and closeout documentation
  • Experience managing individuals as well as multi-disciplinary and multifunctional teams overseeing complex EPCMV projects ($ - $) using the Stage Gate Process
  • Experience with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Process Safety Management (PSM) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR)
  • Understanding of financial management as it relates to capital and expense spending and project cash flow forecasting
  • Hands-on experience in the negotiation and management of contracts and agreements with contractors vendors regulatory and government agencies
  • Extensive knowledge of working with the unionized workforce
  • Understanding of regulatory environmental GMP and OSHA regulations as well as functional requirements of pharmaceutical facilities engineering best practices design guidelines and standards value engineering and life cycle costing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel Project PowerPoint SAP RPM (Project Capital System) SRM (Purchase Order System)
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal written and presentation skills to enable effective stakeholder management and ability to influence across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent planning organizing analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use discretion with sensitive/confidential information

Physical / Mental Demands:

  • Occasional stooping bending stretching pushing pulling reaching and/or light lifting may be required
  • Ability to sit stand walk and move within workspace for extended periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks including hand to finger manipulations grasping pushing and pulling
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in elevated areas
  • Minimal travel within North America and possibly globally

Environmental Conditions:

  • Environment may include office laboratory and manufacturing areas
  • Ability to work safely in an environment with hazardous radioactive and infectious materials and waste
  • Ability to work safely in an environment with exposure to high temperature / pressure steam and other fluids compressed gasses odors various noise levels moving parts vibration wet / slippery areas and high voltage energy supplies
  • Environment may include working at heights in cold temperatures and/or constricted spaces

Compensation Overview:

Princeton - NJ - US: $193430 - $234387

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job such as required skills where the job is performed the employees work schedule job-related knowledge and experience. Final individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
