Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

DJJ is currently seeking a Procedure Coordinator and Victim Advocate. This position is responsible for the management and development of agency procedures in a timely and consistent manner. This involves the drafting of new procedures as well as the periodic review of the procedures and developing updating and revising such procedures.

This position also provides compassionate confidential and effective support to individuals affected by crime or trauma by ensuring they are informed of their rights connected to essential resources and empowered throughout the legal and recovery processes. It is committed to advocating for justice safety and the dignity of every victim through education translation services crisis intervention and ongoing emotional support. The rehabilitation and success of juveniles under DJJs purview impacts the chances of success for their families victims survivors and our communities.

Job responsibilities included but are not limited to:

  • Ability to draft operating procedures and to guide new and amended procedures through the approval process.
  • Ability to work effectively with agency management state officials policy boards and non-governmental groups on multiple tasks and within tight deadlines and to interact professionally with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to organize and lead meetings on policy and procedure development and amendments and to work with participants of varying viewpoints to reach a consensus on policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of procedural development and analysis long-range plan development and program evaluation.
  • Experience working independently and participates in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of government processes and procedures.
  • Experience interpreting legal documentation and judicial processes.

Additional Considerations

  • Knowledge of agency organizational functions Virginias legislative process and practices Virginias criminal justice system and the American Correctional Association.
