Job Summary

The Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS) at Boston University (BU) is seeking candidates with policy experience to support research translation efforts that advance equitable energy transition in the state of Massachusetts. This position is co-hosted by IGS and the Clean Energy and Environmental Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative. Launched in 2024 by BU UMass Lowell and the Healey-Driscoll Administration CELT is a three-year initiative to advance an equitable energy transition in Massachusetts empower communities and train the next generation of clean energy climate and resilience leaders. IGS is a university-wide center convening over 100 faculty across diverse disciplines. IGS research focuses on Climate governance and sustainability transitions Energy systems of the future and Planetary and environmental health with cross-cutting approaches of equity and justice robust data analytics and real-world impact.

This is a full-time grant-funded 1-year position with possibility of extension in-person at IGS three days per week.

  • Support relationship-building with key government industry and stakeholder organizations in the state by mapping out key contacts setting meetings for the IGS/CELT team and maintaining a contact database.
  • Translate BU research findings and offerings into communications materials that are easily understood by government industry and stakeholder partners.
  • Pursue new opportunities for partnerships and projects with government and industry and synthesize existing efforts for this purpose.
  • Assess and catalogue external research needs and match with researchers at BU and other local universities. - Facilitate participation of BU faculty in external events.

Required Skills

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field such as public policy science communication environmental science or public health.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in the policy realm with government industry or non-profit organizations.
  • Additional professional experience with research environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize and communicate research findings for non-academic audiences.
  • Track record of establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with government agencies and stakeholders.
  • Technical expertise in energy transition climate adaptation or related fields preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
