Job Summary

Crosby Scholars is a 501(c)3 formed in 1992 in Forsyth County with a purpose to prepare students academically financially and personally for successful college admission. Crosby Scholars expanded to Rowan County in 2013 and Iredell County in 2015 to better serve central North Carolina students as an independent affiliate of Goodwill Industries of Northwest NC Inc. Our programs are available to all public middle and high school students and helps students achieve in and out of the classroom and contribute to the community.

Since 1992 Crosby Scholars has provided career and college exploration admissions and financial aid workshops advising services college campus visits community service opportunities cultural experiences and over $980000 in scholarships and Last Dollar Grants for college tuition annually Crosby Scholars now serves more than 11000 students each year and has assisted over 35000 Forsyth County students for college and for life.

Job Description

  • Offers comprehensive guidance to high school students throughout the college search application and enrollment journey ensuring they stay motivated and engaged and on track to meet deadlines and fulfill Program requirements.
  • Provides juniors & seniors with individualized one-on-one advising sessions to provide the highest quality guidance and support needed to reach their post-secondary goals. Assists in developing balanced college lists understanding admission criteria selecting application types and decision plans and exploring standardized testing options to optimize their success.
  • Guides juniors through early preparation for college admission scholarship and financial aid opportunities with individualized one-on-one advising sessions during the school day.
  • Monitors student progress toward fulfilling Junior/Senior Program and high school graduation requirements to promote student retention.
  • Maintains accurate records of advising meetings and submits detailed summaries for accountability.
  • Handles sensitive concerns with empathy patience and professionalism while upholding confidentiality in student records.
  • Collaborates with school counselors university representatives and various community organizations to provide additional resources and support.
  • Engages with a diverse student population including low-income first- generation and underrepresented high school students to ensure equitable access to opportunities.
  • Assists with special projects and other assignments as needed to further the programs mission.

Education

Bachelors degree required

  • Adaptable and receptive to management guidance committed to seeking feedback for ongoing improvement
  • Committed to empowering students in their journey toward higher education

  • Skilled in exercising discretion and cultural sensitivity while fostering a welcoming and supportive environment

  • Maintains a thoughtful and approachable demeanor ensuring meaningful interactions

  • Possesses strong listening writing public speaking skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite & Google Tools

  • Experience participating and/or leading presentations and meetings using Zoom MS Teams or other web platforms.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred to best serve our diverse student base.
