Humane Tomorrow is dedicated to promoting a respectful responsible and compassionate relationship between animals and people. Based in Flower Mound TX we help animals and the people that care for them across North Texas. We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization.
A Pet Care Specialist at Humane Tomorrow would be responsible for the direct care of rescue animals supporting both day-to-day animal welfare and the foster program. This role would combine elements of animal husbandry enrichment behavioral observation and coordination with foster families volunteers and veterinary partners.
Key Responsibilities
Provide daily care for animals (feeding grooming watering).
Clean and disinfect animal areas crates bedding and enrichment items.
Monitor animal health and behavior; alert to any signs of illness or stress.
Administer basic medication or treatment (if trained).
Provide enrichment and socialization for animals (play exercise behavioral stimulation).
Support foster families: offer training check-ins problem-solving.
Assist with intake of new animals: documentation assessment vaccination status.
Help with adoption events meet-and-greets and intake calls.
Keep detailed records of animals (feeding medical behavior) using shelter software or spreadsheets.
Maintain inventory of supplies (food medicine cleaning materials).
Adhere to safety protocols for animal handling restraint and transport.
Collaborate with volunteers to coordinate animal care tasks.
Requirements
Previous experience working with dogs/cats or in an animal-care environment (volunteer or paid).
Strong animal-handling skills and the ability to safely restrain animals.
Good understanding of animal behavior.
Physical stamina (lifting cleaning bending standing).
Excellent communication skills (to work with fosters volunteers public).
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Flexibility in schedule (weekends evenings may be required).
Basic computer literacy (data entry record-keeping).
Working Conditions:
Possible exposure to animal waste cleaning chemicals odors.
Risk of scratches or bites.
Emotional work: dealing with neglected / traumatized animals.
Physically demanding tasks (cleaning lifting).
