Economic Data Technician

Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for an Economic Data Technician in the Kelce College of Business that is responsible for supportingthe missions ofthe Business and Economic Research Center (BERC)byretrievingdata from official sources compilingand managingelectronic databases for analysis conductinganalyses to maintain the integrity and security of the data generatingdescriptive visualization of the data assistingBERC personnel in preparing reports and publications and maintainingand updatingtheBERC website and data repository.

Duties and Responsibilities

RetrievesandOrganizesData for Economic Analysis(Essential)-40%

• Retrieveseconomic and businessdata from various websites and other sourcesmaintainedby federal state and corporate entities including but not limited to the following:
• Buildslarge scale electronic databases to support the applied regional economic analysis work of the Business and Economic Research Center and the Micropolitan Studies initiatives of the Economic Development and Community Engagement Division
• Organizesandmaintainsthe currency of relational databases formachine learning andstatistical analysis using the latest hardware and software available to the BERC

Manages and Analyzes Data 30%

• Generates descriptive statistics and data visualizations as needed for various BERC publications including the quarterlyPittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Reportand the annualPittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Profile
• Assists the BERC Director in the collection of data to construct local cost-of-living and price indexes
• Assistsin the collection and organization of data necessary to perform economic impact studies and other customized work for clients of the BERC

Editorial and Publication Responsibilities- 25%

• Provideseditorial supportfor articles reports tables charts and graphs for the quarterlyPittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Reportand the annualPittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Profile
• Assiststhe BERC Director in managing thephysicalpublication and distribution ofthePittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Reportand thePittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Profile
• On aregularbasispublishesupdatedlocal regional and state data series on the public-facing BERC website
• Generatesdata visualization graphics for use in customized hardcopy and online reports and publications of the BERC

Other Duties as Assigned 5%

• AssistsBERC personnelin the production and delivery of community outreach events and projects
• Otherofficeduties as assigned

Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience - Time of Hire

• Bachelors degree ineitherinformationtechnology data science statistics quantitative analysis economics business or closely related field

Candidates must hold abachelorsdegree ininformation technology data science statistics quantitative analysiseconomics businessdisciplineorrelatedfield. Thisdegreerequirement ensures candidatespossesstheadvancedtheoretical knowledge highly specialized methodologies and critical problem-solving skills fundamental to this work. These competencies are typically developed and rigorouslyvalidatedonly through the comprehensive curriculum and intensive experiential experience inherent in a formal degree program.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Documented knowledge of relational databases Excel and statistical analysis software packages
• Appropriate professionalcertificationsin database managementSQL website designprofessional writing or other relevantskills
• 1 Year or moreexperienceworking in a professional setting

Salary Range: $50000 annually
