The Complex Care and Recovery Program Forensic General Unit A (FGUA) is currently seeking a full-time contract (12 months) Registered Nurse. As a member of the inter-professional team on this unit you will provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care. As well you will be expected to ensure safety and security of the client care environment. You will practice in accordance with professional regulatory standards Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing the CAMH Practice Model of Care CAMH policies and procedures and other relevant legislation and regulations. You will be expected to perform assessments develop implement and evaluate the interprofessioanl plan of care to a wide range of clients who may be suffering from mental illness and who may or may not be involved in varying phases of the criminal justice system. You will liaise with other services and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be expected to utilize critical thinking a problem solving process and customer service in your approach to care and service delivery. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; participate in clinical supervision; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. You will participate in the preparation of reports and implement the units risk management processes. Your skills include the ability to conduct behavioral observations mental status and physical assessments monitor patients response to pharmaceutical and care interventions documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention addiction issues forensic psychiatry risk assessments trauma-informed care recovery-oriented approaches culturally competent care as well as demonstrate compassion and promote dignity of clients suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. Your strengths include the ability to perform assessments develop implement and evaluate inter-professional client centered care plans and you will have an understanding of how to develop and implement forensic assessment plans and an understanding of the forensic legal and health systems. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves shift rotation and weekend positionis located at 1001 Queen Street West.

You must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate. Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership decision-making organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with forensic patients and Knowledge of risk assessment tools are assets. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note:This full-time contract position (12 months) is a 1.0commitment which may be subject to change as per the Collective Agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. This position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.
