About the Position
- The City of Grants Pass Public Works Department is currently recruiting for a full-time Utility Worker I or IIto join our dedicated Wastewater Collection Division (position level depends on qualifications). We are seeking a motivated individual with a passion for exceptional public service to join our team.At the City of Grants Pass employees are empowered to achieve the best solutions for our community through shared knowledge vision and a culture defined by our mission vision and values.Key Responsibilities for a Utility Worker for Wastewater Collection:Operates a high-pressure vacuum truck to excavate holes unclog storm drains remove debris from around pipes clear catch basins and various similar tasks; repairs cleaning hose as needed.
Completes sewer system cleaning with use of proper nozzle selection and pressure selection based upon the size and type of pipe.
Inspects and assists with needed repairs of wastewater manholes and pipes for cracked and/or broken interior and exterior structures.
Safely operates the closed-circuit television (CCTV) van to inspect Wastewater pipes.
This position is covered in the Teamsters bargaining unit and incumbents must live within a 30 minute drive of their regularly assigned work site.

Utility Worker I - Minimum Qualifications
Wage Range: $21.84 to $27.64 per hour
A High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of related experience are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description.Licensing/Certification Requirements (positions in this class require):
- Valid Oregon Drivers License Class C
- Motorcycle endorsement may be required depending on assignment
Within 12 months of appointment incumbents require:
- Oregon Certified Flagger (excluding Water Restoration)
- Valid Oregon Commercial Drivers License Class B with tanker endorsement
- Forklift Certificate (within 18 months of appointment)
Utility Worker II - Minimum Qualifications
Wage Range: $23.48 to $29.72 per hourA High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of directly related experience in a utility environment are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description.
Licensing/Certification Requirements (positions in this class require):
- Valid Oregon Drivers License Class C and Commercial Drivers License Class B with tanker endorsement
- Forklift Certificate
- Oregon Certified Flagger (excluding Water Restoration)
- Oregon DEQ Wastewater Collection II Certificate
- NASSCO Pipeline Assessment (PACP) and Manhole Assessment (MACP) Certificates
